Favre-Packers spat to heat up
We are early in what I can guarantee will be a very tumultuous month in the recurring Brett Favre will-he-or-won't-he saga, and what I can tell you for sure is this: No. 4 wants to play football again, and the Packers desperately do not want him to. Will he play? I don't know. I don't think he knows. He has, however, told coach Mike McCarthy he wants to return. The issue is going to be pressed soon. I fully expect Favre's agent to send a letter to the Packers within the next 10 days, stating that Favre, 38, wants to be taken off the National Football League's reserve/retired list. At that point, the team will have no choice but to re-admit the league's most accomplished statistical quarterback ever back to football, and general manager Ted Thompson and McCarthy will have a decision to make that you can be sure is keeping them up nights. They can take Favre and his $12.8-million cap number back onto the team and give him his starting job back, they can trade him or they can release him. Every one of those options makes the Packers wretch. I've been told an edgy McCarthy told Favre, in their most recent phone conversation a couple of weeks ago, the legendary quarterback would put the Packers in a tough spot by reneging on his March 6 retirement. Favre understands. But I don't think it's going to stop him from doing what his body tells him to do -- play football again.

Let him back. He almost led his team to the Super Bowl. What has Aaron Rodgers done?

This is un-fair to the Packers, If Favre does return it should be with another team

i wouldn't be surprised to hear if aaron rodgers is on prozac or is looking for the tallest building in wisconsin (surely no larger than 3 stories) to jump off of.

How is this unfair to the Packers? I thought the purpose was to put your team in the best position to win? And Favre gives them that.

It's unfair because he's holding the organization hostage. They're on the hook for his salary cap number and that affects other things they can do. It's also unfair to Rodgers who has been doing everything in the offseason to prepare to lead their football team only to have Favre come in and pull the rug from underneath him (again).

Training camp hasn't even started. He's not holding them back. And you know what you have in Favre. In that division, Favre can get them back to the playoffs. And what about the other players on the team? If you took a survery, I bet 95% would vote Favre.

This is crazy - the only option here is to let him play??? and why wouldn???t you want him to???? the team almost made it to the superbowl, he is a legend coming off his best season ever??? you have lost nobody of significance from last year???s team??? how about taking the attitude of seriously making a run at the superbowl???? why not??? isn???t that the ultimate goal of every franchise anyways?.. you are 6 months removed from alomost been there??? why re-build now when the goal is so close???? The packers are crazy if they choose Rodgers over Farve right now because they are afraid of hurting his feelings??? isn???t this supposed to be about winning championships??? Who is going to give the pack the best shot??
why so much emphasis on the future when you obviously have the team to win it next season - if Farve returns???
bizarre..

This crap has been going on since before the 2006 season. Favre's wishy-washy, flippant inability to make a decision (or more recently to stick to it) has placed the Packers in a very tough position. And it is indeed unfair to the Green Bay franchise and its fanbase. I am wondering if he is just addicted to the attention that initiating this sort of drama brings him.

here is an option - bring back Farve for 2 years, trade Rodgers, and groom rookie Brian Brohm (who has great potential) to take over for Farve...

The packer brass should be furious that he would even consider putting them in this spot. They dont need this. Here's an idea: let him come back, and sit him on the bench and be a backup and help groom Rodgers. If he cares about being involved with the game and contributing to the franchise that has given HIM so much (as opposed to vice-versa) then he wouldnt mind that a bit. Lets see if his ego would let him do that. I highly doubt it...

What if they don't take him back and Aaron doesn't work out or they have a mediocre season? Someone will get fired over that.

I want him to come back so the Bears can better their record against him. After the sweep last year I believe we've taken 4 of the last 6. A small dent in the sizable whopping he's given us over the years, but a dent nonetheless!!

And for those who are going to list his record over the Bears, I'll just say we have the series edge so shut it now.

If he wouldn't have retired, I wouldn't see the problem, but it's selfish because the Packers have changed their whole offense to accommodate Aaron Rodgers and his best throws, and now Favre is holding that hostage. His selfishness just put them in a tough spot, and now we have to hear about him and what Packer fans think every day now for what, two months? I'd love for Minnesota tax money to go towards building a dome around Wisconsin.

You all act like he waited until Week 2 to come back. It's the second week in July. He can comeback by training camp and the team will be ok.
