Braves finding tough trade market

As the Braves continue to look for a power-hitting outfielder, they are finding teams are requesting a greater return value than expected. Likewise, as they continue to evaluate a potential market for Mark Teixeira, they're finding teams aren't currently looking to bid too much for his two months of service. If the Braves do fall out of contention and opt to move the free-agent-to-be, they'll certainly be looking for the return to be better than the current market indicates. As for possibly acquiring Pittsburg's Jason Bay, the Braves would likely have to include another Major League-ready player like Brandon Jones, who is targeted to play left field next year if another outfielder isn't acquired.

I don't think they will move Brandon Jones to get Bay.

The Braves need pitching, don't they? Bullpen help. Outfielder or two. Starter. Atlanta should be sellers, not buyers.

July 9, 2008  10:34 AM ET

I agree, they have too many holes to be buyers right now.

July 9, 2008  10:40 AM ET

But.... they live in the NL East..... nobody is solid and anyone could make a move and make a run at it....

July 9, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Awww, the Braves aren't able to fleece the Pirates?! Poor guys...

July 9, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Good point......if they were in the Central, I think they'd have packed it in by now.

The Braves need a CLOSER!!!

Mark, being a Hotlanta Homey, should stay there. But when bigger money calls, that virus GREED sets in.

Go Bravos!

As a Rangers fan I was thrilled when they trade Tex. He is a selfish player who only thinks about himself. He always starts the season really slow and helps put his team in a hole, then complains and heats up when it does not matter in the second half. He does nothing to show fans any appreciation, does not do anything all for the community he is in. I feel bad for Atlanta since they gave up 3 quality prospects for this guy. He is going to treat them just like any other team, because he is all about himself.

Gee, no one wants to give up much for a player under contract for 2 more months that will want big $$$ during the off season. Imagine that

July 9, 2008  12:07 PM ET

Trade Teixiera to the LA Angels. They have an abundance of pitching and outfielders, and could certainly use the big bat.

July 9, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Braves will not be able to trade Teixiera. Teams will wait for free agency and go after him then.

are you a eddie vedder wannabe?

Teixeira to Anaheim for Figgins. Love the guy. I'd do that in a heartbeat. Diaz at first. Crazy.

Braves need pitching, pitching, pitching.

July 9, 2008  03:35 PM ET

brandon jones, brent lillbridge, and a decent pitching prospect for jason bay. as far as every1 saying the braves need pitching, every team needs pitching in today's game and there is no pitcher you can get for a reasonable price. jason bay could replace tex in the lineup next year and we take our two first rounders. jason bay, jordan shafer, and jeff francouer(if he can find his old game) is a nice, young, talented outfield for next year. oh and for the guy that said braves need a closer, mike gonzalez is pitching amazing

July 9, 2008  05:20 PM ET

What the Braves need are (1) Pitching, (2) Leo Mazzone back as pitching coach, (3) a little more thunder in the line up beside Chipper. Bay would be nice, if they could afford him, but who's gonna deal with the Braves? Look at their team. Not a lot to choose from, guys.

What atalanta needs is....NEW OWNERS......
