According to multiple reports, Chicago Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco may finally have gone off the deep end in what many describe as an assault on a stadium employee after being red carded in Tuesday's U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match at DC United.

What you don't see off camera in this picture is the face of the employee he just slapped.

I'd like to know more about what happened. Probably some idiot putting his hands all over him trying to escort him somewhere. Gots to be delicate after those Reds!

How much does this dude make? Some stadium employee just won the lottery

July 9, 2008  11:32 AM ET

You dont mess with the hump! Aaaigh! Leave the hump back along!

Anger Management classes he needs

July 9, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Lazzymike97- honestly thats what i was thinking... ive read many reports on this, and i think that blanco had a head full of steam and the employee went to grab him to escort him.... technically speaking if the employee grabbed him by any means he may not have struck the lottery..

anyhow, that picture isnt oh him assulting anyone...just a basic picture of blanco looking irate...

I was there last night, he headbutted a Fire Assistant coach and for good measure pushed a Maryland state trooper, all they were trying to do was calm him down and escort him to the locker room area. He almost went after the fans who took pleasure in taunting him....It was a bad scene all around....

Man, that's not good.

July 9, 2008  12:17 PM ET

No big surprise here! The MLS knew that he had the potential to do this and he went off and did it. He's a good player but he is a hothead and that's why people hate him. I kinda like his tactics. They are rather amusing, but this is not amusing at all.

Anyone know of any YouTube video of Blanco's red card and subsequent rant?

but that doesnt show the assult on the employee

July 9, 2008  01:39 PM ET

I hope this doesnt really surprise anyone

The spirit of Cantona lives on..

Well you do see a body shot that Blanco throws in that video Otergod posted. The guy is a sociopath. They knew what they were getting when they signed him. Just look at the GOld Cup game against Honduras and the Copa Libertadores in 05 i believe. When they played the Brazilian team and he gets sent off and after heading to the locker room, storms back to the field and causes an altercation. I've seen this man play plenty of games (im a chivas fan.lol) and everytime he doesnt get a call his way he pounds the floor like he's a damn gorilla. Anger Management aint enough. Send him to the Padded Room! lol

Just what MLS needs

We were crossing our fingers he wouldn't do anything stupid like he's known for

July 9, 2008  02:12 PM ET

Cuauhtemoc is as gifted as he is stupid.

I LOVE IT!!! I knew this would happen sooner or later. As long as he doesn't seriously hurt anyone it just adds to the entertainment value of Fire games for me. Somebody has to be the village idiot with sick game and Blanco seems to have taken that torch and run with it (and he will use that torch to burn anyone who gets close to him. So BACK THE **** UP!!!)

Seriously though, did he get bitten by a coyote before the game 'cause dude seemed rabid last night. Perhaps he was channeling Julio Cesar Chavez as that was one helluva right hook to the ribs.

We've seen Beckham take a drop-kick to the stomach in one of the LA derbies last year and although he got up and let the guy know he would not tolerate it he never struck the guy. Keep that in mind when considering who is the best DP.

Blanco's ability on the field is not in question... but rather his temper.... he's kept it in check up till recently... and here are my thoughts on why thats changing...

1) blanco is fouled more then any 1 person in the MLS.... alot of the actual fouls are called and i blame that on Blanco's antics last season (falling over on the slightest of touches)... but blanco has changed and it takes more to knock him to the ground... if he falls now, its almost always a "should call".... being fouled that much can get frustrating... not to mention on an aging body, it cant feel to good...

2) Blanco produces too many chances that dont get finished.... open sitters in front of the goal.... he's used to a level of football where those would be put away... games are lost or tied when they should be won... it gets irritating if you are a competitior like blanco

there are other reasons, but looking at those 2 it was only a matter of time before he'd blowup.... he's done well till now and done well for the league... not only has he done well for the league but also for the Fire.... he's been one of the top DP's signed to date....
----

saying that, i dont condone his actions... but the USOC board is reviewing the incedent (not the MLS board)....i see future USOC suspensions and a healthy fine.... the BIG problem is if the security guard has enough evidence to press charges.... it all depends on what started it... if the guard touched blanco?? if there was actual contact?? or if the contact was even disputable for a court??

He is a dirty filthy mexican, player. He is just like the other dirty and filthy guatemalan, player. Ruiz.

He has so much potential and he is definetely a playmaker...but with all his anticts and all the whinning he does his skills are overlooked.
