Twins talking about Beltre

While the Twins don't have a pressing need heading into the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, they do view shortstop and third base as two positions where they could benefit by adding a proven veteran. They have had internal discussions about Seattle third baseman Adrian Beltre, but there are no indications those talks have extended to the Mariners.

This might have legs.

July 9, 2008  02:19 PM ET

the Mariners would love some of the twins prospects after that bedard deal

July 9, 2008  02:48 PM ET

Could be a good deal for both sides.

July 9, 2008  02:50 PM ET

might just be a good fit for the twins, they most have money in their pockets to spend.. they should spend some of it.

July 9, 2008  04:08 PM ET

Beltre could benefit from artificial grass, great fit..

July 9, 2008  04:44 PM ET

Beltre needs new scenery...

July 9, 2008  04:45 PM ET

Haha, it says that they haven't talked to Seattle; they've just had "internal discussions". I guess they could be "talking" to A-Rod, Aramis Ramirez, David Wright and Miguel Cabrera, too.

I'm a huge Adrian Beltre fan I wish him all the luck!!! Mr. Beltre is blue-collar player that comes to work EVERYDAY !!!

July 9, 2008  05:55 PM ET

What is this; a rumor of a rumor of a memo?? Looks more like some hack wanted to make sure his keyboard was plugged in to his computer....

July 9, 2008  09:08 PM ET

I would usually say, "Go for it," but I think that the Twins will be shocked to see his monstrous contract.

July 9, 2008  09:27 PM ET

It wouldn't be like the Twins to trade for someone in his tax bracket.

July 9, 2008  10:46 PM ET

How many years are left on that contract? They may go for it if it's .5 years.

July 9, 2008  11:09 PM ET

That was a horrible contract the Mariners signed him to. I was thinking it was 6 years....beginning in 2005, but I'm not 100% on that

July 9, 2008  11:32 PM ET

Anyone know where the world his power numbers went?

Didn't he hit 48 HR's with the Dodgers? Where did that go? Anyone.

July 10, 2008  12:39 AM ET

The Twins don't have a pressing need? This writer must be smoking crack. They are playing well (minus the sweep that just occured), however, they have little power at key power positions

July 10, 2008  01:47 AM ET

I surely hope this trade doesn't happen, Beltre is a solid 3rd Baseman, and his swing is that spark the Mariners could on the Offensive side of the ball. This deal may do some serious damage to the Mariners who could contend in '09 in my honest opinion.

In a Nutshell: Don't do it!

really because a 3rd baseman plays on grass now.

July 10, 2008  12:04 PM ET

He'd look splendid in a glass beaker over somebody's Bunsen burner.
