Leafs have no room for Gilmour
Doug Gilmour's desire to re-invent himself as a coach could lead the Maple Leafs icon to another National Hockey League team. While the Leafs are trying to accommodate their former captain and franchise playoff scoring leader, there might not be any immediate opportunities for him here. Gilmour, 44, declared his new ambition in the past few months before officially ending two years as player development adviser on Tuesday when Joe Nieuwendyk was hired as Cliff Fletcher's special assistant. But Gilmour's lengthy meeting with new head coach Ron Wilson last month did not see him added to the staff with Rob Zettler and Tim Hunter (Wilson's San Jose assistants who are headed here), with Keith Acton surviving the Pat Quinn/Paul Maurice firings as the third man on the team.

Oh, yes, they do! How can they pass up on someone like Dug Gilmore? This guy breathes and bleeds hockey! They have to have room! Just get rid of "his ineptnes" Rick Pidde and put Gilmore in his place! Even a blind mouse would do better than that clown!

What?! The Leafs giving the middle finger to one of their own? To one of their greatest ever even? I've never heard anything like that ever! Oh my, what has gotten into the world.

Killer should go earn his stripes under Keenan in Calgary. That's where he won his Cup.
He should consider it a blessing Torana didn't want him.

We in Phoenix would be glad to have him alongside Gretz to teach those young kids WHEN do use their fists instead of all the time.

They should have found room for him, even if only for PR reasons. The fans (well, the informed fans) know that Toronto is entering a rebuilding phase anyway so it's not like the next two years are make-or-break years for them.
The rebuilding phase would be a good place for Gilmour - he'd learn under tough conditions, and he could mentor young players.
There's probably a lot more to the story than T&R really knows.

Even funnier...Toronto released a DVD series about Gilmour the year he carried them to the...semi-finals.
In Toronto, they worshipped Gilmour like a God. The media was all over his jock "...He lost 15 pounds of sweat in the first period!...He's from another planet!!...blah...blah...blah..."
Name a team othe than the Leafs (in any sport!) that releases a commemorative DVD series about a playoff year where they DONT win.

Oh, and i hate how he wanders around like he is the best thing in the organization and knows the right answer to every question asked. He is the master of OPINIONS and NO ACTION.

HE was a tremendous player, no doubt. I just don't know about his office politics. He needs more experience before being considered for any real coaching job.
Toronto has so many front office guys it ain't even funny. Peddie is an idiot but, if he surrounds himself with good people, nobody will notice. This is how many offices work, the main guy is a moron but, he has good people working for him.

Insulting. He was one of the best Leafs' leaders & lead their charge in the early 90's. And they thank him by slapping him in the face. Say what you want about the Flyers organization, they do take care of their alumni. They "create positions" if they have to.
