Does Cuban want to buy the Steelers?

Mark Cuban grew up near Pittsburgh and once wore a Ben Roethlisberger jersey on the Late Show with David Letterman. Just don't expect to see him in the owners box for Steelers games. Reports have surfaced that the NFL club may be for sale. Native son Cuban would seem to a possible buyer. But he told CNBC's Darren Rovell that he wasn't interested, and questioned whether a small-market team could excel under the NFL's salary cap. Asked by e-mail Wednesday evening if that was his position, Cuban responded: "It is."

Like the rest of us aren't?!!!! Astute reporting.......

He would want to be sole owner most likely and that is not going to happen. We don't need Marky running up and down the sidelines. As long as their is a cap football cannot become the mediocre, eight-to-ten team spending spree, joke that Major League Baseball is.

I was thinking about buying the Steelers, but propane is at an all-time low right now. Maybe in a few years.

A small market team cannot compete under the salary cap???

Uh, didn't Pittsburgh just win the Super Bowl three seasons ago? Seems to me like they can compete.

Besides, a class organisation like the Steelers does not need a total flake like Cuban having a say-so in how they operate. God, I hope the Rooneys maintain control of the team.

if he wants to invest in any pittsburgh team, it should be the pirates. while they have shown SOME improvement, they need an owner who is willing to SPEND SOME MONEY to improve the team even more.

July 10, 2008  07:35 AM ET

it will interfear with his deal with the Cubbies.

How can small market teams not compete? The Steelers just won a couple of years ago. The Jaguars are one of the best teams in the AFC. The Packers went to the NFC Championship game just last year. Makes no sense to me..

I think they mistyped that, they probably meant "without" a salary cap as is the case when this current labor agreement expires.

Cuban needs to go away. Please. Go away.

Can a small market team survive? Pittsburgh may be a small market but Steeler Nation is HUGE! The games are and always will be sold out. Local TV ratings are among the highest in the country and merchandise sales ar also among the top. The Super Bowl in Detroit was practically a home game and there are Steeler bars everywhere you go. The Steelers will be fine, trust me. Worry about those teams that can't even sell out 8 games a year.

That said, I'd love for Dan Rooney to maintain control.

Thank you, FN. My most burning question was Mark Cuban's opinion on...just about anything.

July 10, 2008  08:27 AM ET

FanFiction.com, hahaha...Mark Cuban is garbage.

July 10, 2008  08:29 AM ET

The words Mark Cuban and the Steelers or any thing to do with thd NFL should never be used in the same story. It just ain't right.
Dear Mr. Cuban, just go buy a TV show so you can get the air time you crave. That is really what you are all about..
P.S. The Steelers are doing just fine, thank you.

July 10, 2008  08:33 AM ET

So first he wants to stick his nose in the Cubs buissness and now the Steelers? Mark, don't you have another team to worry about like the one you own?

July 10, 2008  08:41 AM ET

Shouldn't he be worrying about the Mavericks?? The team that he has completely screwed last year by trading for an aging Jason Kidd. Geez.

Cuban is a ****, he is ruining the NBA, and thats one thing, but dont let him ruin our NFL too... Thats something serious and important to us all
