Lampard to walk out on Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is set to buy out the remainder of his contract with Chelsea in order to join Internazionale, according to The Telegraph. The England international has been in the middle of one of the summer's most perplexing transfer sagas, as former Blues boss and personal friend of Lampard, Jose Mourinho, looks to lure him to San Siro, where he now coaches Internazionale. Rumours were prevalent even before Mourinho's switch last month but have now stepped up into a full-blown war between the two clubs. Inter have made their interest clear and rumours that a deal was already done over a week ago were rife, only for Mourinho to then declare that he did not believe Lampard would be joining him this season, but the next, when his contract at Stamford Bridge runs out.

I'll say it again, Frank will be leaving at some point, and we had better get some fricken money for him.

As much of a Chelsea admirerer as I am I think it would be best that Lamps left. He is a fantastic player but with all the midfield talent there is on the roster plus the addition of Deco, the blues have too many mids.

I saw this one coming -- I'm glad to see Lamps go somewhere he will play and not play Man Utd in the league to boot, but thanks EU for making contracts even more pointless. Robinho next to buy his contract out?

He's going to leave like we've been told he would and wouldn't 100 times. He will leave and I'm not reading another Lampard T&R until the season starts.

Wow, I honestly didnt believe that it would happen! I thought Frank was Blue for life! he must have really had a good connection with Jose

Peace out dude

Mou, Ibra and Frankie mean CL for Inter-Milan!!

July 10, 2008  11:56 AM ET

when will the english learn?????????? move to the continent to play and come running back with your tail between your legs after a season or 2....not many ever make an impression outside of the UK.....he'll go to Inter and then return after a year to play for ManU ....haha

Drogba to follow?

I think he has too much respect for the club to walk out, be he will move in a year or two

July 10, 2008  12:36 PM ET

This would certainly seem to refute Blatter's slavery charge!

July 10, 2008  12:55 PM ET

I thought he was going to sign a 'long term' contract as of last week. He may want to leave since blues just got Deco and are highly persuing Ronaldihno

Drogba blows anyway he should go to Barc asap with his flopping self

You forgot to mention that he will take his 12 warrants for his arrest with him. I hope he does great in Barca, not.

We all know that The Telegraph isn't a reputable news source. I'd need to hear this news elsewhere before I even consider believing it. Keeper makes a good point here. We're all getting sick of the Lampard rumors. We hear a different one every day.

Drogba is as much a world class diver as Cuauhtemoc Blanco and he's never afraid to give an elbow to the chops. It's hard to have respect for a player with that type of work ethic.

July 10, 2008  04:32 PM ET

It's either he buys himself out or leave next year on a free transfer but either way he's going to be with Mourinho. It's just a matter of time.

July 10, 2008  04:41 PM ET

If he buys out his contract, how will that come across to the Chelsea faithful? Seriously...?

July 10, 2008  06:04 PM ET

If Lampard stays, where will Essien play with Ballack and Deco in the midfield?

July 10, 2008  07:59 PM ET

Grant made a game of trying to play as many central midfielders as possible at once.

Essien can play right back or something.

Enjoy getting nothing for him now Chelski. Way to play hardball /sarc

Oh and Greg Lalas (owner of Goal.com the source of this story) is a complete tool. Why on earth is he spelling 'rumors' the UK way 'rumours' or did T&R do that to make the report look more credible? Pathetic.

Lamps should go where he wants, Chelsea need to lose some players though. they can have half their team injured and still have a ridiculous roster. they have at least 8 midies who would likely start on almost any team.
