Knicks dodge Marbury's future
On the day Donnie Walsh welcomed Chris Duhon to the Knicks at a Garden press gathering, the team president didn't say the magic words - that Stephon Marbury will be a member of the Knicks this season. While trying to defuse speculation Marbury is finished here, Walsh remained noncommittal on whether the point guard will be bought out. It's a saga that could drag into October's training camp. "I haven't said anything about that, not even to my confidants," Walsh said. "I haven't projected it that far. The players that are on this team are on this team."

He is a Knick until his contract expires. D'antoni will try to make it work. It's a new system and a new coach so Starbury has nothing to lose. I hope he will try to play hard and play within the system. He will be hard to get rid. But who knows. Nowadays you can just release anybody even w/ 18 mil a year contract. Finley is a sample of that.

"Nowadays you can just release anybody even w/ 18 mil a year contract"
- well you can- but owners don't want to eat the $ loss for nothing
The thing though is - from a PR standpoint-
simply releasing him would make every Knick fan jump for joy and REBUILD our confidence in the team & management......priceless

Buy him out!!!!!!!!!!!!! Knicks fans desperately need this to happen. I'm a Nets fan, but I'm tired of seeing the Knicks get killed on the court and from the media. I really don't know how Marbury can live with himself. He is one of the most selfish players and a terrible human being.

the summer is long and the knicks will find a way to upgrade their roster with or without marbury. he is now 4 1/2 years a knick and was only once in the playoffs as the starting point guard. he had his chances to lead this team but he missed it so its now time for a change, a quick one

I still remember when Knick fans thought Z-Bo was the missing piece of the puzzle. Too bad the team is loaded with these "pieces".

selfish player - YES
However- off the court he is actually not bad- -
-his starbury line is meant for poorer kids who can't afford 150$ lebron shoes-
he COULD've had his sneakers selling for higher.....but he doesn't
(I hate defending him at all- but we have to be fair

The Knicks should trade Marbury's expiring contract for young players and picks, or just wait out his contract.
How about Marbury, Lee, and Jeffries to the Pacers for Tinsley, Murphy, Daniels and a 1st? They dump Jeffries contract, get rid of Starbury, and get something back for the soon-bolting Lee. Walsh gets his favorite PG, a solid (if overpriced) PF in Murphy, and an expiring contract in Daniels. Plus what will probably be a high number 1 pick.
Pacers get to dump Tinsely and Murphy and get a good young PF in Lee. They send Marbury home or buy him out.

Why would NY help out Indy with Lee etc?? Its just much easier to buy him out. And what makes you think Lee is bolting anyway? If there is a good offer, he'll stay

Like the Knicks themselves, Marbury is going nowhere.
Duhon will fight to take the starting job away from him. If he's successful, things will get really interesting.
By the way, I don't consider the Duhon deal to be an upgrade in any way.
It's six of one, half-a-dozen of another.

Stephon isn't going anywhere. Donnie Walsh seems focused on clearing up cap space to make a run at LeBron for 2010 so trading him for long term contracts doesn't make sense.
They could release him now and eat his salary for a year, but I think they will just hold onto him and stick the year out. It's possible that Steph might play lights out in this his contract year, and the Knicks might want the benefit of that.

They've put up with him this long, keep him now they might got some value.
Steph has something to prove. Forget all that Italy stuff he wants another NBA contract (probably his last) and needs to show he can play and be a team player. IF he does the right things he can blame the last year + of his bad rep and performance on Isiah.
If he does the Knicks can get something for him at the trade deadline.
