Huskers fan behind OU hoax

James W. Conradt, a Nebraska football fan living in Austin, Texas, says he didn't mean to hurt Oklahoma quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Landry Jones with his Internet hoax. So what was Conradt thinking Wednesday when he lifted a template off The Oklahoman's web site, newsok.com, wrote and pasted a bogus story about the Sooner pair's arrest on cocaine distribution charges, then posted it on a message board? The 36-year-old Conradt says he wasn't thinking. "I want to express my deepest apologies to the families," Conradt said Wednesday night, after his story was reported as fact by at least two Texas radio stations. "That's the thing I'm regretful about. I didn't want to hurt anyone." An apology might not be enough to sooth this over. "I'm going to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law," said Kevin Jones, Landry's father. "I've got deep enough pockets to do it."

He should be forced to watch a continuous loop of last years Nebraska games while in prison.

I hate OU with a passion........but this is Stupid! He is a dip ####! The only reason he is sorry is because he got caught.

But Still Hook 'em Horns!

July 10, 2008  07:34 AM ET

STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. He should know better in this day and age.

July 10, 2008  08:54 AM ET

Lol, this guy had some balls!!! Make him play the center position while in prison, his cell mate can be the quarterback!

July 10, 2008  09:01 AM ET

What does that say about Nebraska fans???

OR that the story was "reported as fact by at least two Texas radio stations."

I'd say let the Oklahoma team line up one on one in pads with him. Then let Mr. Jones hit him hard in court.

July 10, 2008  09:23 AM ET

Isn't that libel to wrongfully post a story like that and drag someone's name through the mud?

July 10, 2008  09:26 AM ET

I would go after the radio station that reported it as fact.Had to have been a Fox (Faux)stationsince they always make up the news.Surprising their are people in Texas who can read so there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

July 10, 2008  09:30 AM ET

Depending on the depth of the article, they could file slander and defimation of character charges, I could be wrong, all you attorneys, know more?

July 10, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Except for being labeled drug addicts, etc....this was pretty funny.

July 10, 2008  09:44 AM ET

This guy's f'ed!!!

July 10, 2008  09:45 AM ET

FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!!

July 10, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Anyone still in denial about Americans having lost a sense of reality, perspective, and common decency didn't read this story. I mean, this isn't even an SEC fan from Alabama here we're talking about.

July 10, 2008  10:19 AM ET

Dumb move, but I would be stunned if it wound up in a lawsuit. The kid's dad will lose interest, especially once he figures out that this guy probably doesn't have enough money to make a suit worthwhile. Then everyone will move on with their lives.

July 10, 2008  10:33 AM ET

does anyone know the whereabouts of Bill Calahan? Think about it.

July 10, 2008  10:42 AM ET

So he posted a bogus story on a message board... last time I checked that wasn't illegal or alot of posters on FanNation would be in jail. The 'reporters' who reported it should be fired for not verifying their sources.

This is stupid

Just like that stupid dog and the carcasses of the dead ones you dopes bury on the sidelines.

July 10, 2008  11:30 AM ET

James Conradt is dead. Ohh, that was a bad prank. My bad, he is still alive... I think!!!

Why you gotta bring Alabama into this discussion? Anyway, our cocaine selling stories happen to be true. :-)
