The Clippers have also made preliminary contact with Charlotte Bobcats forward Emeka Okafor, who is also a restricted free agent, according to NBA sources who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to talk about player movements.

Okafor would be a better fit than Hawk's Smith with Baron...
Are the Clippers ready to offer 14ml?

July 10, 2008  07:32 AM ET

the clippers will screw this one up too. that franchise is snake bit.

July 10, 2008  07:43 AM ET

Man i feel bad for them.

July 10, 2008  07:44 AM ET

Emeka Okafor or Josh Smith?
lets see what the clippers do this time (if anything)
at least baron davis returns home but some fre@king help would be nice

July 10, 2008  07:52 AM ET

He would be a good fit alongside Baron Davis.

That said, the Bobcats need to keep him in Charlotte if they can.

July 10, 2008  07:58 AM ET

Josh Smith would be the better fit for the Clippers. Emeka would just be another Kaman w/ less offense. Josh has proven that he can play and has a very good upside. Josh is what BDiddy need athleticly. Emeka looks like he will be breaking down. His bad back is not improving.

I smell desperation from the Clippers

Okafor is a better signing, don forget if Emeka misses 15 games or so, the Clippers have a decent short term replacement in Tim Thomas

July 10, 2008  08:23 AM ET

Miami should really be pushing to get this guy...marion for him would work especially since they have jim jones they can place at the 3 and Haslem at the 4. Since Marion has more value, maybe try to add blount to the deal to get rid of his contract and take one of their scrubbs. One of the few players with a body that's made for the center position, though he's playing power forward. In fact, center would probably be an easier position for him.

July 10, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Okafur in his career should be earning under 10 mil a year-
But more than the mid level

he's a defender & rebounder. PERIOD.
No offensive skills

Any team that signs him to a reasonable deal will benefit from his hard work & willingness to do dirty work

July 10, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Clippers are one of the worst franchises in basketball history...Okafor is pretty much a journeyman type. Solid backup...either that or because Charlotte is NEVER on TV, I missed a lot.

July 10, 2008  08:51 AM ET

I agree with jgb. I think he's worth a bit more than the mid level exception, but not more than $10 million a year. It's hard to know what you're going to get with Okafor. He is still young and has potential. He has played in Charlotte for his whole NBA career which probably has negatively impacted him. The Clippers should give him a shot, but don't think that he is going automatically replace Elton Brand.

July 10, 2008  09:17 AM ET

The problem about Okafor is he never improves. For the most part, his stats have stayed the same during his 4 years in the NBA.

July 10, 2008  09:42 AM ET

Well Do SOMETHING!!!!!! Getting Okafor is better than doing nothing??? what are the other options in this years FA market anyway? Not much. If Okafor is the best remaining choice, then go get him. Otherwise shut shop and let high schoolers play for free during Clippers games. I'll pay to watch kids, rather than loser adults.

From one bumbling franchise to another...

July 10, 2008  10:06 AM ET

u guys r **** idiots. okafor is a beast down low First off they dont need him 2 score no more tham 10-12. al thornton is **** over josh smith Period. bdiddy puts in 20 a night easy and dont forget Kaman aint no slouch . his coming out party was las year. now the bench is garbage but their starters are more than capable with the addition of okafor of course. If gordon knight thomas and maybe livingston can giv 30 off the bench they will b in good shape. plain and simple clippers always have talent .
