A few contending teams have contacted Houston regarding infielder Mark Loretta and outfielder-first baseman Darin Erstad in case the Astros, currently in last place in the NL Central, decide to become sellers. Loretta, who started the 2006 All-Star Game for the American League at second base, can handle a number of positions and is a very good pinch-hitter. Erstad, a Gold Glove-winner who can play all three outfield spots, is batting .301.

ya if you could get on or Nolan that would be great

July 10, 2008  03:40 PM ET

of Nolan sorry about that

July 10, 2008  03:43 PM ET

i've been asking about those 2 as well, questions like:

1. who the hell are they?
2. what team are they on?
3. didn't they used to be OK players?
4. what contender really NEEDS either of them?

those type of questions.

hopefully one of those teams in on loretta is the dodgers ,because nomar is one sneeze away from the d.l again. And we have maza, lu,and berroa,as his replacement. Neither one of those three can put the ball in play even if they are pitched a beachball and are using a guitar to swing at it.

Loretta could help a contender....

Astros clearly need to rebuild. Might consider some trades for yound players to develop. Pretty ugly with several teams in the NL.

those unis are horrendously awesome

From his one year in Boston - Loretta could definitely help someone for the "short" term. Must start though to be effective !!!

Please Astros: TRADE FOR PITCHING PROSPECTS!!!!

The sad thing is, the Astros kept Loretta and grabbed Erstad because they thought they could be contenders this year. If they hadn't traded every decent arm in the bullpen in the last few years, that might have been true.
Remeber when the last 3 innings of an Astros win were automatic? (7th - Lidge; 8th - Dotel; 9th - Wagner)
