Fuentes might be next pitcher to move

With the market for starters thin, there's growing buzz that Rockies closer Brian Fuentes will be the next pitcher traded this month. Tampa Bay has been the most aggressive team pursuing Fuentes, followed by the Yankees, Mets, Cardinals and Marlins. Fuentes is arguably the most attractive and versatile reliever available - he can close, set up or work exclusively against lefties. Fuentes will be a free agent at season's end. The Rockies could offer arbitration in order to get two first-round draft picks if he signs with another team. So any trade proposal has to be better than what the Rockies believe they could get in the draft.

I think Fuentes will get dealt to an AL team. I just think their is more of a need for relief pitching, mainly an 7-8th inning guy who can get people out sucsessfully. I think the trade will happen at the deadline, but I think the Yankees and the Red Sox would not trade for him mainly because he has really struggled. I think the Yankees and the Sox should try for Huston Street. Now he is worth alot, mainly to big contenders. Sorry Rays, I think they WILL NOT land either Street or Fuentes.

I'm not aware of the farm systems of the other teams mentioned, but the Mets don't have the kind of talent the Rockies would be looking for. I'm comfortable saying the Mets will not land Fuentes or Street.

My gut says Fuentes lands with the Rays.

Rumors have been circulated that the O's might be willing to deal George Sherrill. If that's, indeed, the case, the O's are dumber than I thought.
