Brown leaving Jazz for Wizards

The Utah Jazz will not match an offer sheet the Washington Wizards have extended to restricted free agent point guard Dee Brown, according to multiple league sources familiar with the situation. The 6-foot, 181-pound Brown will play with the Wizards' summer league team in Las Vegas next week. Brown, who starred at Illinois along with Jazz all-star Deron Williams, could fill Washington's need for a third point guard, one who can spell veterans Gilbert Arenas and Antonio Daniels and provide insurance in case of injuries.

I hope Dee gets some time on the court with the Wizards. He couldn't get a break with Utah, and he was abused and ripped off by that Turkish team. He deserves better.

Deon was good, but Dee was my favorite Illini. Looks like I might be a Wizard's fan this year.

Deron, not Deon

You underestimate how much money is available. Arenas left money on the table for additional free agent signings.

Who?

July 11, 2008  09:17 AM ET

Vaughn9 stop crying.... Dee Brown is a solid player. Not many guards would have gotten playing time behind Deron Williams... Just wait and see. He's a true point. Handle the ball and distribute it... Kinda like my man Brevin Knight, who is one of the best pure points in the league...

Hllywd - agreed. Too many of these read-and-fire type kids see the "$100M" articles and assume its all gone.

I was hoping the Wizards would go after Josh Smith though...we need help down low.

Need help down low?? Call Mike Tyson, he licks well :-)

Smith is wayyyyy beyond wiz's means after their signings.

Dee Brown can really play. Fans in Utah are Still pissed that they let Dee go and signed Jason Hart for MORE MONEY. He is a freaking joke, They should have kept Dee Brown in the rotation. Only reason they didnt is because he is a little smaller and a little flashier, not Jerry Sloans favorite in that case. He likes the Deron Williams type, bigger, more defense. But Dee Brown stepped it up in the Playoffs when the Jazz went to the Western Conference Finals.

I want to see Dee Brown succeed because he was dope in Illinois. They call him the one man fast break. He is one of the quickest guys youll ever see on the court.

Joe

Hart is a decent backup than can play when given opp

July 11, 2008  10:32 AM ET

I highly doubt that the Jazz will miss this guy.

July 11, 2008  10:41 AM ET

I hope Dee gets a shot. I thought he was decent in his limited playing time in Utah year before last......but he didn't shoot the ball very well.

July 11, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Arenas left about $16 mil on the table from his deal. He took $111 mil instead of $127 mil. That plus whatever is available at the mid-level exception, about $5.8 mil and you're already looking at $21 mil plus. That's a three year deal at $7 mil plus per year.

That's enough money to pull another talented player into the Washington fold.

July 11, 2008  11:38 AM ET

I thought Dee Brown retired (just kidding).

July 11, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Dee is a good player, but getting minutes in a Jerry Sloan rotation is tough. Hope he gets the future he deserves.

Dee Brown ?
he's a 6'0 (and that's generous) 2 guard......

July 11, 2008  12:42 PM ET

July 11, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Wasn't Dee Brown the slam dunk champ one year..? Gotcha...

July 11, 2008  03:03 PM ET

The jazz got it going these past few years but haven't made it over the hump...maybe some change in personnel will help them out..
