Recruit picks UGA over Gators
Jordan Love of Glen Allen, Va., who said he was told by Georgia's coaches that they might sign only one cornerback for next year, committed to the Bulldogs on Thursday. With 22 scholarship offers, Love is considered one of the nation's top cornerbacks. He picked Georgia over Florida and Penn State, and called the other finalists to let them know he is going to sign with the Bulldogs. Love is highly coveted because he offers a rare combination of size (6 foot, 185 lbs), speed (4.41) and athleticism at cornerback.

For some reason, teams still recruit CB's 6' or shorter. In today's game, the wide receivers are over 6' tall. Too many times you see the CB's miss matched against a WR whose 3-4 inches taller than the cover man. For the life of me I can't figure why DB's are not of the same height and weight. You have to be able to defend the airspace down field, and you can't do this if your 5'11 or 6'. There are a few rare exceptions to the rule, but they are indeed rare.

Usually DBs are shorter than WRs, but have great athleticism and have great verticals. The ideal target window for QBs (esp. college) to throw over a DB's outsretched hands and within the WR's vertical is not that huge (unless the WR is 6'5" and the DB 5'10"). Plus, taller players usually have the option of WR (where the money and fame is available) or DB. Some shorter WRs pan out, but the short guys usually don't have much of an option other than RB or DB.

^^Keep in mind this coming from a 5'7" former HS DB.

Yeah, I thought the same thing Devo, but D. Sliq has a point. Most DB's have a very good vertical, and DB's need to be quicker to make up lost ground (usually tall guys aren't as quick).

The title should say, "Recruit picks Dogs over Nittany Lions." b/c those were his two final choices.

Yeah I saw that too. Florida was behind Penn State in his decision.

A 6'-0" DB doesn't worry me, I get worried when they are 5'-9". The 185 looks good, and the 4.41 is nice too.

That's because most kids above 6'0 become WR's!!!

Those are pretty good numbers for a young guy. I doubt though they are only looking to sign one CB.

What? RARE combination of size and speed? He has decent speed but he's not tall or big for a corner at all.

Yeah I agree; but I live in Atlanta and the Dawg fans definitely prefer reading Georgia over Florida more than Georgia over Penn State

I played CB in high school. I'm 5-10. I have pretty a good vertical (for a white dude). It's more about jumping the routes and engaging in run-blocking schemes than catching up to outstretched passes. Besides, you can get away with a little nudge here and there at the line.
Georgia is notorious for having really physical defensive backs (just ask Hawaii), but they are also notorious for being really susceptible to the long ball (just ask GT's Calvin Johnson).
