05:23 AM ET 07.11 | Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card. The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands. Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue. Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges. Police said 6 grams of cocaine was found. The threshold for potential charges of possession with intent to deliver is 1 gram. However, prosecutor John Threet said there is no evidence that Jones intended to deal the drug. Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said he was waiting to learn details of the case. "We're trying to investigate that now," Weaver said. "We don't have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts." Jones, a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round pick in 2005, failed to develop into the go-to receiver for Jacksonville. Jones caught 77 passes for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two pro seasons, but he struggled in 2007. Last season, coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones' demeanor and work ethic, making him inactive for three games. In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson.

So what about his arrest. Seems like he wanted to get caught. He is an unhappy person...for sure now. Just another dude cutting up some cocaine. WAS IT CRACK? That is the question. There is a big difference. Honestly.

WOW....This guy is an idiot.......I thought he had a chance.....

Unlikely to be crack if the description is accurate and he was cutting it up with a credit card. He was probably just snorting a few rails before heading into a club or something. With 6 grams on him, he obviously had a decent supply on hand, so he was probably already high and feeling 'invulnerable'...and then he got sloppy when we was re-upping in the car. That's my speculation for the day.

Just goes to show you, you can kick em out of the trailer but they will still end up in the trash.

He was on his way to party at Ricky Williams house with Cedric Benson as the guest of honor.

Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones' demeanor and work ethic,

Well, when you're dieing for a line of blow, how hard can you be expected to work? How cherry can a brother be?

Come on guy... hs is not supplying anything that we know to minors neither what he did could be considered a violent crime... his entourage is smaller than what pacman use to go to the bathroom. In this court he is guilty of stupidy by all means but he ain't no pacman or henry. he was having a hard time in jacksonville (you can't be a project forever). But he is a good example of what is wrong with nfl he got 1st round money on a potential to a position he never played before... he gave jaguars some return for that money but he never completed that deal. Now he is dallas bound for sure... must be nice for jerry jones to find an arkansas alumni of his own persuation with a drug problem and seriously he is an atractive player to have with a unique set of skills but still learning to use them. In the troy williamson blog I stated that his chances of making jaguars this year were getting slimmer by the minute... now he is for sure done. with mike walker, john brossard and djuan woods there is new blood ready to go with the right set of skills. for the jags he was a luxury that no longer is needed. like the humvees I no longer see in the road (gas prices... wasn't gas the reason we went into Iraq? ...no, weapons of mass destruction? ....Oh I see!!!!) Goodbye Matt Jones, I am not going to call you trailer trash because I don't know your background.... you never said to be from the hood or the ghetto so I will take your word for it. But... NOT TOO SMART KID!!!!!

July 11, 2008  08:06 AM ET

Well, he's done. If he isn't kicked off the team, the NFL is sure to do something about it. I know being a professional athlete doesn't buy you happiness... well, in this case it bought him a temporary fix, but he's definitely got some issues if he's using that crap and needs some serious help. He should get enough time off to get it.

July 11, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Just one more idiot throwing away his career. From big bucks to zero; I see a pattern...

July 11, 2008  08:16 AM ET

This is just sad. I thought he would do well in the upcoming season... maybe have a break out year... but I guess not, unless he breaks out of jail...

July 11, 2008  08:20 AM ET

Every week another NFL player in trouble with the law. This is ridiculous.

July 11, 2008  08:37 AM ET

AMEN to that. They are the dregs of the earth. Well some of them anyway.

He was a "one man show" in college at QB. He was a nightmare to defend.

What is it with gross stupidity and WRs and CBs? Does lining up outside, away from everybody else induce some sort of IQ drain? Other than Cedric Benson and Ricky Williams (I guess that Longhorns are different?) I think that every stupid, prima-dona incident has been either a Wide Receiver or a Cornerback (OK, so Pacman is the one Cornerback).

Son, you're done in Jacksonville.
