Lakers unlikely to keep Turiaf

Lakers forward Ronny Turiaf, a restricted free agent, got the big money he was seeking Thursday, about $17 million over four years. What remains to be determined is who will be paying him, the Golden State Warriors, who signed Turiaf to an offer sheet, or the Lakers, who have seven days to match that offer. Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak had no comment upon receiving the paperwork. But matching the Warriors' offer would seem a stretch for the Lakers, already over the salary cap and at the tipping point for the luxury tax, to more than quintuple the yearly salary of Turiaf, a reserve who averaged 18.7 minutes last year and only 9.8 in the postseason. The 25-year-old Turiaf's salary last season was $770,610.

He could be a starter for GSW.

July 11, 2008  09:57 AM ET

Man i loved turiaf on the lakers' bench mob.. oh well, hopefully we get artest to make up for some of the lost intensity.. in a good way

July 11, 2008  10:33 AM ET

I like Ronny but not at that price. Sorry.

July 11, 2008  10:34 AM ET

The Lakers could replace him, in my opinion.

July 11, 2008  10:38 AM ET

See you later!

July 11, 2008  11:03 AM ET

I am really sorry to see him go. I hope the Lakers can pull off something to get a scrapper like Ronny was. I still have confidence in the Lakers front office, Mitch Kupchak is one of the smartest GMs in basketball and learned from the best. If you got a problem with that, come at me!

This is a very expensive market. I said that when everyone blew up over the offer to Arenas, who showed he's a class act and left $16 mil on the table for the team.

Turiaf at $17 mil? He will go to GS next year for sure. From $700k to $4.25 mil per for a bench player. Nice work Turiaf!

I wish Turriaf nothing but the best.He did help our team alot and I really wish we could find a way to keep him. This is how pro sports is now-a-days.Everyone is out to get paid and I dont blame him.He should also be on Dancing with the stars. He would win.

True Petey, a 600% pay increase is hard to turn down. Good for Ronny!

July 11, 2008  02:01 PM ET

Gee, I don't see how he can refuse 4.6 mil vs 700K even it it was for playing in the NBADL.

4th day in a row, they've run this same story.
Is this how the Lakers are advertising his availability?
At least they changed the photo this time.
