Davis: Can't be mad at Brand

For all the significance of Baron Davis' signing with the Clippers, it was also marked by who won't be playing alongside Davis. "I did think that Elton [Brand] was going to come and I talked to him and tried to say, 'This is the best place for you, we can do great things,' but obviously, he chose otherwise," Davis said. "You can't be mad at him for that. There's no Elton Brand in L.A. It's my turn and it's a chance for the younger guys to step up and [we'll] get a couple more free agents and we'll be ready to go."

Will the Clips or the Warriors ever be relevant? It's all about the Lakers...

July 11, 2008  08:06 AM ET

I watched that press conference the other day and almost felt bad for Davis but he's rich so he'll be fine.

Going to the clippers is like going to Indians back when they made the movie Major League. Its where you go to get forgotten

Why would he be mad at Brand? He just did the same thing to the Warriors. All he ever said was that he wanted to stay a Warrior...now he's with the Clippers.

Tell me it ain't about money. Who would willingly go to the Clippers?

July 11, 2008  09:14 AM ET

aren't the Clippers a D-League team?

July 11, 2008  09:16 AM ET

Brand was smart, Davis was not; He COULD have gotten a similar deal with someother team, if he waited out a bit. Clippers should be renamed Losers

July 11, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Vaughn9 - pretty much. Just a place for players to go and develop for 4 to 5 years before moving on to real NBA franchises.

I guess money over championships huh?

July 11, 2008  10:26 AM ET

I would be mad. If I was Baron, I'd call Brand up and tell him that you're going to score 40 points everytime you play the 76ers. No free agents the Clippers will sign this offseason will compare to Brand. The best they can do at this point is try to sign Emeka Okafor.

July 11, 2008  10:30 AM ET

I feel bad for Dizzle, he got to see right away that the Clipper's management sucks.

July 11, 2008  10:32 AM ET

It's Money Over Playoffs. Championships and Clippers do not belong anywhere in the same sentence.

July 11, 2008  10:41 AM ET

I think the Clippers signed Baron because they never expected Brand to stay.

With Brand I thought they had a legitimate chance to be a winner for the first time. Now they're just the Clippers again.

I believe Baron will retire a Clipper.

A very classy statement from a player who just got burned.

It's actually pretty funny when I think back about him saying how he wanted to stay a Warrior and then sold out for the cash to a team he THOUGHT might have something to build on. Now he is in a worse situation than before except he has the cash. He can enjoy the money while losing with the Clippers. .

KenoshMark -
A classy statement from a player who just got burned? HOW SO? As others point out. Brand just did the exact think Baron did. He went for the money. LOL! Classy act by both of them. This is what makes it so good when you see players take LESS in pay to make room for others and a chance to win. It is rare but it happens. I'm glad Baron will be with the Clippers. I never cared for him. He looks ticked off in almost every picture someone takes and his attitude matches the pictures. Maybe it is the beard. :P

Yeah, Tim Duncan did it so they could keep Manu. Arenas just did it so they could sign at least one more player. Chris Paul (sort of) did it when he structured his deal to allow for money for additional players (although he didn't lose any money in the deal).

That's three I can think of recently.
