Ugly truths about Rodriguez
Finally, somebody at Michigan was embarrassed enough to settle West Virginia's lawsuit. Not Rich Rodriguez. He is way too bullheaded. It took Mary Sue Coleman, the school president, to end this mess. Coleman was on the verge of being deposed, and she obviously didn't want to be dragged into it. Not so coincidentally, Rodriguez finally settled. We now know Rodriguez to be a serial job-shopper. His agent, Mike Brown, had pitched Rodriguez's services to Alabama, Arkansas and Louisiana State in recent years before pursuing Michigan. We now know Rodriguez doesn't believe in contracts. He signed an amended contract with West Virginia just four months before he left. He then claimed that the signed contract was not as important as a verbal agreement that preceded it -- a laughable legal argument. Rodriguez said in December that he was battling the buyout because "we have to do what we feel is right." He meant right for him, not the school.

This guy isn't cool and I have a feeling Michigan might be regretting this decision.

Michigan should have left their offense alone and only worried about their defense.

The ugly truth is the Detroit Free Press.
I don't even like tSUN, but this is the most garbage article I have seen in ages.

Martin is an idiot, Coleman should have been fired along with the "idiot" I just mentioned. Yeah he (Richey Rod) may "win" but at what cost to Michigan? Truth is Martin had no real plan to replace Carr and it showed! He may have (and probably did) feel that all he had to do is approach a coach about the vacant job and bingo, he would have the problem solved! It's been said before, RR is interested in one thing, himself. I'll bet Bo and Canham all just giving this coach hell from Football Heaven. Only reason I am hoping for good results is due to being a long time Wolverine Fan and that began with Bo. This charlaton in Michigan clothing can no way or ever will be any where near what Bo was, as a coach or a man!

I think Martin is the biggest idiot here... He thought he caved to pressure to hire a coach fast, instead of finding the right guy. Had he thought about it more, who knows, RR might have still been that guy, but it could have gone much much smoother...
The article does seem to overstate the fact that the pay out was inevitable. RR clearly wanted to move the case from WV, once that didn't happen, the case was as good as over. Don't try to tell me that a good ol' boy judge from WV would be unbiased. The entire state seems emotionally attached to that team, and finds RR public enemy #1.
Like I said yesterday, RR is on the hot seat, not to win, but to demonstrate his character as a Michigan man...

When RR loads up the UM football team with speed and agility in 2-3 years and proceeds to tear through the Big 10 like nothing they've ever seen before, you will all forget the current topic of discussion and will sing his praises saying "I always said he was the right choice for the job".
Excuse us while we continue counting this money.

This is an opinion piece. It's not a "news" story. Lawsuits are ugly. RR is flawed like every other coach out there.
but the kicker of all of this is thta RR hasn't coached a single game yet so many venom filled people want to see him fail. I can understand the WVU people being mad. WVU was the shining crown jewel of the state and RR was the guy that made it glimmer. Losing him is like finding out your hot girlfriend really digs other girls more than guys. You end up feeling inadequate and dejected just like WVU fans. But those who are on the attack who aren't WVU fans...well, your motives are quite transparent.
RR will and should be judged by what he does on the football field. His players like him and his the coaches that went with him like him. Let's see how he does after a few seasons before we start sharpening the knives and loading the guns. It's not that much to ask. But then again, so many of you are so filled with hate (OSU fans) that my words won't really matter.
GO BLUE.
Btw, all of this negative press will just add to UM's desire to prove people wrong. Michigan is on a mission and, believe me, when they get up to full strength and experience, you will not want to play them.

Enough with the "jilted girlfriend" analogies, please. I must have heard that 100,000,000X! Oh, you mean the "girlfriend leaves for another girl"?
So you are saying that Rich Rod is like a girl that leaves his boyfriend(WVU) for another girl(Michigan)?
Or are you saying that because lawsuits are "ugly," that WVU is ugly? Or is it Michigan that is ugly?
And what do you mean, "sharpening our Knives and loading the guns"? Is Rich Rod going to go after Mike Brown for giving him bad advice? Or is RR going to commit suicide with "knives and loaded guns"?
I'm confused.

Warden - I don't think anyone is shaking in their boots regarding UM or RR...now or in the future. RR will and should be judged by what he does on AND OFF the football field. If this debacle was at OSU, you would be eating it up, just like a lot of people are doing with UM. RR wasn't dominate at W. Va. Winning the COnference out-right only once:

It's as obvious as your buckstache as to why you are confused. Try asking xxx84xxx to explain since he seems to be one of the few objective OSU fans on this board.
And if i remember correctly, there was a lot of disappointment in the hiring of JT.
Again, let RR do his job and judge him by that.
On a side note, when I was at Michigan, I understood why many said all the hot girls go to MSU. I am sure there are many fine looking women @ WVU as I am sure there are many numbnuts drones who hate TSUN more than they love OSU in ColumbASS.

Der Dutchman,
Not so fast my friend...no I wouldn't be eating it up the same thing was happening in ColumbASS. The only thing I would eat up is recruiting/NCAA violations because I do think that OSU recruits in way that isn't ethical.

As a Bama fan, I was hoping we'd land RR after Shula was ousted.
Between this debacle and the trouble some of his former players have gotten into, I'm glad it didn't happen.
I truly hope RR does well at Michigan (at least as long as he's not playing an SEC team!), but he's going to have a hard enough time between these distractions, and the lack of players at UM that play his system (hint to Coach: Take a page from Urban Meyer, and ADAPT YOUR SYSTEM in the short term, instead of expecting your players to adapt to yours, especialy if you don't have a QB that can run it right).

Warden - The he!! you say! Of course you would. What do you believe OSU has done unethically regarding recruiting? Maurice C. is a possible example. You don't think UM or any other school has strectched rules before? I know you have heard the Fab 5 argument before. No payment there....
