According to a league source, the Lakers already have contacted the Kings regarding Ron Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar Odom. As of Tuesday evening, the Kings had not returned the call. They are expected to insist on forward Kenny Thomas and his $18 million of remaining salary (over two seasons) being included in that potential trade. Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether the Lakers had called.

Great deal IF the Kings are dumb enough to do it. Artest is a true SF.

heat should trade marion to the kings for ron artest and brad miller

Odom doesn't bring much to the Lakers. He would probably score alot more with another team.

July 11, 2008  08:27 AM ET

Oh this will never happen. Not if they're forcing Kenny Thomas in on the deal. The Lakers are already in Luxury Tax territory, and to add another $9 mil in a player they'll never play will simply be crazy.. They'd have to find another way to unload his 18 million dollar total contract to someone else.

odom s a head case who choked in the finals. Artests a head case who hasn't played in a finals. Who knows what could happen!!! Of course Phil did coach Rodman.

I remember when the Buls had Ron Artest, Elton Brand & Brad Miller. I'm really glad we got jack for Artest and Miller and that Eddy Curry/Tyson Chandler thing worked out great for Brand. Awesome.

On another note I think Jackson has visions of what he and Jordan were able to do with Rodman. With Kobe in the leader position and Artest being a bit older they may be able to get him to really focus on a title. He is a good defender and can score. Could be what they need.

Hmmm...I don't know. I love Artests intensity. He reminds me of Rodman in more ways than I wish he did but if the Lakers have to take on Thomas, I'd say no.

I don't know if the Kings will bite, this is not Memphis. Guess the Lakers think they can take everyone for next to nothing.

Can't see the Kings helping the Lakers. I want it to happen but there's too much bad blood between these two franchises to allow this to go down.

The Kings would look for deals from teams in the East before they even think of sending Ron-Ron to LA.

July 11, 2008  09:05 AM ET

If the Lakers can keep Artest in check. this is a good deal for both sides.

HOVA--good point. I can't see the Kings helping the Lakers.

July 11, 2008  09:13 AM ET

I hope Sac town makes the dea this could benefit both sides..

July 11, 2008  09:21 AM ET

What makes me so mad about Lamar Odom is he is a top ten TALENT- big, quick, can shoot, board up (rebound) pass.... confidence and heart are lacking tho'!

July 11, 2008  09:40 AM ET

There's no reason Sacramento would not make this deal if the Lakers took Thomas' contract. They'd get rid of Ron Artest who can be and is a pain to their organization and they're not going to be contenders anytime soon! They'll be rebuilding for the next three plus years.

However, I believe the Kenny Thomas inclusion is the deal breaker!

If anyone can work with Artest.. It is Phil.

Um, Odom has had opportunities with Kobe hurt and such

He is a 3rd option

Joe, that actually isnt a bad trade

Miller is a solid passing and rebounding big man and Atrest is a lock down defender......

Marion wouldnt like being in hoops hell though
