Interest high in Maddux, other Padres

San Diego general manager Kevin Towers said Friday morning that he's received substantial interest in players who will be free agents following the season: pitchers Randy Wolf, Greg Maddux and first baseman Tony Clark. Towers indicated that he had a discussion earlier this week with Maddux -- who has a no-trade clause -- to inform him of what teams have expressed interested so far. Towers said Maddux would consider his options (waiving the no-trade clause or staying put) over the All-Star break. Wolf, a left-handed, is receiving interest as well but has said he wouldn't mind staying in San Diego. As for Clark, who could get moved in the next few days, Arizona might be a nice fit for him.

The interest is high.........according to the Padre's GM? What an unbiased source.

I can't see contenders lining up too deep for Maddox considering how badly he ran out of gas last September.

Agreed. He of the slow pitched cutter balls.Once in the playoffs he will be destroyed.

Mad Dog's records, I don't care about career numbers, are crap this year. I'd be hard-pressed to take a chance on him. He needs to go back to Atlanta.

Wolf will go. Clark probably too. Maybe a few other pieces. I think Maddux stays.

I disagree. I believe the first to go is Maddux. Gives a contender innings, experience, and competetiveness.
