SMU AD not going to Notre Dame

SMU athletic director Steve Orsini will not be leaving for Notre Dame or any other job in the near future. The school announced late Friday afternoon that Orsini will continue in his current post. Orsini, who came to SMU in June 2006, has been mentioned as one of the leading candidates to replace Kevin White as Notre Dame's athletic director. As a private school, SMU does not have to reveal contracts. Typically, such announcements like the one made Friday involve a significant extension and pay increase.

It's a shame. He has done a very good job for a program on the verge of extinction, would have liked to see him back in South Bend.

I think ND should just have Weis become the AD because he brings a "decided schematic advantage" that will help all the sports programs at Notre Damn.

Who cares. Whether he's there at SMU or not, June Jones will have the football program turned around in short order.

Yeah. FMSD, doesn't really know whats going on. Orsini was one of the captains of the Irish' '77 National Title team. If anything he should get props for getting Jones away from Hawaii to the mainland. He'll have more exposure there.

Good move on his part because SMU is about become something special again [the right way this time around]. It may not happen immediately but it will happen.

Thank you Steve for staying PUT!!! As a looooooooooooooong time SMU fan, Im glad to see some stability (hopefully) coming to the athletic department. Nice to know that Notre Dame cannot just go out and get whoever they want at any price. .......Again, thank you Steve for staying in Dallas!

Okay, so he's not going to N.D., so what. Find someone else then.

Thanks God!

Now if we could just get a home and home series that would be great so I can see my Nittany Lions play in my back yard here in Big D. I went to the last game we played SMU in 1978 in State College. I'm glad to see SMU moving in the right direction. SMU is a great job with a hot bed of talent.

No sir, The clown was heartbroken when June left Hawaii - and understandably so. That's okay though. McMakin knows Jones' system and holdover players. Won't be so bad, FM. (UH needs new facilities: that would help recruiting.)

As for ND: what a burn. First the Minnesota guy, now this. Things must be worse that they look in South Bend. Does anybody want the job?
