Mourning eyes midseason return

Although Alonzo Mourning still hopes to return from last season's serious knee injury, the Heat center required an additional procedure recently amid his comeback bid. Three sources familiar with Mourning's rehabilitation confirmed the procedure but said the center still could be able to make it back to the court by midseason. Mourning ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee and also tore the quadriceps tendon in that leg in a Dec. 19 game in Atlanta. After spending a month in a hard cast and another month in a brace, Mourning was told the injury would require at least six additional months of rehabilitation.

Id like to see him come back.. hes one of the genuinely great people to play this game and his dedication to defense can help out a number of teams.

He is everything that is good about a professional athlete carrying himself with class and dignity while never winding up on the police blotter

July 12, 2008  11:26 AM ET

how much does he have left? will he get hurt again? he does no good on the sideline in a suit.

July 12, 2008  11:40 AM ET

he has plenty left. i think he's one of the most honorable nba players, no legal trouble, donations, and hard play...

Morning is a great person and a great teammate, but when your head is making dates that the rest of the body can't keep, it's time to hang it up. I think that time has come for Zo.

July 12, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Zo is the heart & soul of my Heaters he may be 38 but he plays like he is 21!

July 12, 2008  12:53 PM ET

He isnt a starter anymore but he can give them 18-20mpg as a defensive presence behind Blount

" hes one of the genuinely great people to play this game"
"He is everything that is good about a professional athlete carrying himself with class and dignity "

Where are you getting this opinion from ?
Don't confuse his MIRACULOUS return from his kidney ailments,
for being a 'good guy in the league'

- no he was never arrested.....
but he has always been about finding the biggest paycheck-
he WALKED OUT on the nets when he realized they weren't going to win- after practucally holding up rod thorn with Kidd 'demanding' they sign him.
he didn't 'return' their money- he just stopped playing

Fierce player- great defender, amazing comeback story.....
but he isn't a 'saint' - don't confuse the two

Good call jgb. Don't forget he also refused to play in Toronto also. This guy's a good ball player but he's a DB if you ask me. He's one of those guys that you like if he's on your team but hate if he isn't.

I personally won't miss his constant flexing of his muscles and pounding his chest on routine plays.

STAY HOME ZO NODBODY WANTS GRANDPA ON THEIR TEAM

July 12, 2008  04:13 PM ET

BUT HOWEVER ZO IS A GREAT PLAYER AND VERY DOMINATE; HIS AGE IS THE QUESTION HERE NOT HIS TENACITY; I FEEL THAT HE SHOULD MAKE A CALCULATED DECISION:

I love Zo. I was hoping he left when they won 'coz he pretty much accomplished everything he needed to do.
But if he feels like playing, then he should. Its unfortunate that Heat isn't in a position to be a contender right away
