It appears Manu Ginobili could be leaning toward playing in the Olympic Games after all. After struggling all summer with a jammed left ankle that cast his availability for Argentina's national team in doubt, Ginobili told reporters in his home country he was optimistic he would be able to play next month in Beijing.

Despite being LA competition, Manu's one of my favorite players. I hope he doesnt do any serious damage to that ankle.. Spurs are still VERY strong contenders despite many peoples' belief that their old and done.

He's old, and the spurs are done!!!

July 12, 2008  10:23 AM ET

Old? Done? Maca, get off the crackpipe. I know it's Saturday, but it's early. You've got all day.

July 12, 2008  11:23 AM ET

old and done??? it is an odd year and they have won 4 of the last 5 titles in those years. If he decides to play I'll be suprised. pop has alot of pull and he'll tell Ginobili what do you want more another shot at the gold medal or a shot at the NBA title.

July 12, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Ginobli is only 30 years old. Parker is 26, and Duncan is 32. Bad news haters. The road to the Western Conference Championship will continue to go through San Antonio for a few more years, and if they happen to find another piece or 2.... Put it this way, I expect them to get back before the Lakers.

if they can get josh smith, him and tony parker will give them the youth they need to win another championship...

July 12, 2008  11:57 AM ET

This doesn't surprise me. This is just a risk teams take when they acquire a player from another country.

cant flop any more ginobli u & your fellow flopping girls are toast!

July 12, 2008  12:35 PM ET

They need some more offense

Bowen needs to be coming off the bench

But Maggette wld have been a horrible signing

July 12, 2008  12:36 PM ET

They cant afford Smith

July 12, 2008  01:06 PM ET

Manu should carry the flag & cheer from the bench in a suit,

He's not 'old' but does have a lot of wear on his body from competition & long playoff runs.......
he's sacrificing the good of his current team & paycheck for an exibition
- not a smart move

July 12, 2008  01:46 PM ET

let him play..its his career....

Such insightful commentary. Stick to jocking D-Wade's nuts, Dee.

I just hope he (any athlete for that matter) doesn't hurt himself in the games.

The S.A(ARP). Spurs aren't old. It's just fun banter calling them that.

The Pop should request Manu is traded for Rip Hamilton, Danny Granger, or Jamal Crawford. Either of these players will do. But after he comes back from the Olympics he will be damaged goods. 31 yrs old with a bum ankle, not a good situation for a key part of the offense. Pop better wake up and smell the coffee or another year of TD's prime will be wasted. He better do something because Manu is not going to get it done. And wasting the 1st part of the season waiting for Manu to get healthy is not something the Spurs should be doing in the ultra competitive West if they wanna secure home court advantage in the Playoffs. I'm really getting sick of Manu and his unprofessional behavior. If TD has given up on the Olympics why can't he, It is not like Argentina has a chance this year anyway. Manu needs to start thinking about how he cost the Spurs 3 championships and stay healthy and contribute, or be traded. I don't think it is a hard decision at all,

I don't know if the Spurs can afford Josh Smith, and since we signed Mason, looks like JR smith is out, so the Spurs should offer Manu to the Hawks in a 3 team sign and trade deal for Josh Smith. I know the Hawks don't need Manu but maybe a 3rd team will, Don't know how but somehow we need to get another shot blocker on the frontline so TD doesn't have to kill himself doing it all plus Kurt Thomas may leave, so this may become necessary anyways.

ummm lets see he's a known flopper, hes been playing top level basketball for almost 17years, He got schooled by Kobe and Farmer, like I said OLD AND DONE!!!!

July 12, 2008  05:13 PM ET

Let's check those papers and make sure Manu's really from Argentina. He's looking kinda Serbian to me. (Then again, I'm under 2 feet tall. It's tough for me to see that high)

TD is past his prime, he cant put up 20 and 10 any more. he's still extremely good tho...
