Bulls shut down injured Rose

One day after team officials expressed optimism he could play Thursday, the Bulls instead shut top pick Derrick Rose down for the remainder of summer league because of tendinitis in his right knee. The Bulls insist the condition isn't serious, even though Rose will undergo an MRI. General manager John Paxson said Rose also would begin a leg-strengthening program upon his return to Chicago. "They say it keeps happening because I'm young and my legs aren't strong enough," Rose told reporters in Orlando.

Every guy in the NBA has knee problems!!

July 12, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Bet they didnt see this one coming.

July 12, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Wow. How snake-bitten are the Bulls at this point? If things had worked out, they could have Brad Miller, Elton Brand, Ron Artest, Tyson Chandler, Jay Williams (with no motorcycle).

Most basketball players deal with tendonitis. This is no big deal. But if the Bulls feel they should shut him down from the summer league, what's going to happen in February?

July 12, 2008  11:29 AM ET

they saw this comming like portland saw it comming last year. they need better doctors to look at these guys.

July 12, 2008  11:36 AM ET

why are all these rookies gettin injured before they even play. not enough milk

July 12, 2008  11:58 AM ET

I said it once and I will say it again this guy WILL be a BUST! Stupid not to take Beasley. Hell this guy was not even the best player on his team. Time will tell but I still think this was a stupid pick for the bulls they have guard coming out the yengyang.

Tendonitis isnt a big deal

But its not a good omen he has it before he has played an NBA game

"Most basketball players deal with tendonitis. This is no big deal"

- no - but supposedly it is a problem which he had last year in memphis.
It is a big deal when you have these problems at 20 (already)

The best picks are sometimes always the flukes when they get to the big leagues. Rose better hope he'll be able to play...

July 12, 2008  03:59 PM ET

The problem that Rose has is his diet. While he was here in Memphis, he was notorious for eating skittles and gummy worms for breakfast.

July 12, 2008  04:08 PM ET

and everyone knows Skittles cause your tendons to become frail..... and overworked.....

That's what tendonitis is, when you overwork a certain part of your body.

"They say it keeps happening because I'm young and my legs aren't strong enough,"

It's happening because you're...young???

Blaming an injury on someone's youth? The PR boys could have come up with something better than that couldn't they?

July 12, 2008  05:27 PM ET

he should have more milk...

Is Beasley missing any games? I'm almost switching teams and I don't like it one bit

July 12, 2008  07:50 PM ET

Guess this is one of the dumbest thing any team could do. Why play him in the Orlando leagues to begin with???? He already complained about tendinitis, and ONLY thing that'll help the condition is REST....R E S T.
I've posted this elsewhere , but being a medico, sometimes I'm baffled about decisions team doctors come up with. So what did he accomplish playing in the summer league?? He can end up missing significant time during the season

its the dumbass staff of the bulls...
