UFC tilting title to Liddell?

Is it jealousy or did Josh Koscheck and Lyoto Machida simply say what other UFC fighters are afraid to say? Machida (13-0), who many feel is a boring fighter, hasn't come close to sniffing a title shot. He told Brazil's Tatame.com that he thought Rampage Jackson won at UFC 86 and suggests that maybe this was a way to get former champ Chuck Liddell back into the title picture. Liddell is a knockout artist and his fights generally deliver exciting action. He's biggest name in the sport, good with the media and good friends with UFC president Dana White.

Chuck the Suck is washed up and worthless...it is his name alone that draws the crowd. He is friends wirh Dana (which is a girls name) and the only reason he keeps getting chances.

that does make sense and although I am a Forrest and Rampage fan, I thought that it should have been a draw it was that close. You CANNOT strip a man of his belt on a fight so close like that. Call it a draw like everyone saw it. Dana is a ****

I dont think he's washed up at all, he just beat Wanderlei Silva 6 months ago.

July 12, 2008  04:36 PM ET

Liddle needs to beat Rampage to get another title shot.

July 12, 2008  04:52 PM ET

It was a good fight in terms of drama. Clearly though the fight was a DRAW clearly to everyone in the building and watching on PPV! They should have a rematch scheduled, but Dana White is too happy to have Forest the "Golden Boy" of UFC_MMA!!!

In a 'close' fight, the victory normally goes to the overall agressor...which was Forrest. This isn't boxing...You don't have to 'dominate' the champ to take the belt.
There may be a conspiracy regarding who deserves the next title shot. But there was no conspiracy in the judging of the Forrest/Rampage match.

Not even close to being true.
In the building, there was almost no shock expressed regarding the decision. Rampage wasn't even surprised.

That seems reasonable.
Although reasonable decisions are not always made. They are a business after-all and marketing plays a big role in what they do.

Most didn't see it as a draw.
Dana did not judge the fight. If you implying he told the judges to cheat, you have nothing to base that on.

July 12, 2008  05:50 PM ET

forrest and rampage should get a rematch b4 anyone else can fight for the title

July 12, 2008  06:05 PM ET

Rampage lost. Rampage stated Forrest "just whipped his a_ss" and that Forrest "deserves it". Stop with the conspiracies. It was not a draw.

July 12, 2008  06:14 PM ET

I watched the fight several times and to be honest. Forrest got Rampage in the second round with a leg kick that ended any agression by Rampage.

How many hear have seen Rampage's fights? He is always ruching in on guy's and slamming them. Well, there was only one slam and it wasn't all that ferocious. Face it, Rampage got wipped by a fighter with a better fight plan and he knew it.

July 12, 2008  06:15 PM ET

ack!! That's "rushing". I hate miss typing things.

July 12, 2008  06:22 PM ET

Chuck has to beat Evans before he gets any type of shot. Chuck is 1-2 over his last 3, with those 2 losses both KO's. Evans is 16-0-1, so he may get the next shot if he beats Chuck.

Let's not forget that Anderson Silva is moving up to 205. He wins his fight and he might get the next shot at Forrest.

July 12, 2008  06:32 PM ET

Question? I haven't heard if Silva is vacating his title to move up or if he intends to fight at both wieghts. Has anyone heard.

July 12, 2008  06:38 PM ET

Azmodi...

For now, the announcement is that he will retain the title and fight at both weights. This may be as much for marketing reasons as for anything else.
If he finds his groove at the higher weight, he may stay there (and vacate the middle-weight title) as there is overall more prestige and $$$ at the higher weight.

July 12, 2008  06:42 PM ET

The guy looks like the back side of an elephant. Let's hope he gets his act together, and just doesn't show up to the show for his paycheck.

July 12, 2008  06:58 PM ET

Thanks YODA. I had not heard anything about it so I was curious. The guy can fight but I'm not so sure adding weight will allow him to still be as mobile. Lots of fighters are slowed by the added weight when they move up simply because they weren't naturally that big.

July 12, 2008  08:59 PM ET

In general I think the whole light heavy weight division is overrated liddell is past his prime, rua has done nothing in ufc same with wanderlai silva its just not that appealing to me. The lower weight classes is were the best fighters are at Georges St Pierre the best pound for pound fighter in the world and hopefully if Dana gets it right he will put Georges moving up a weight c lass to fight Anderson Silva

I'm a Rampage fan, but I like Country Forrest as well, and I thought Griffin won the fight in a close decision. Quinton wasn't in the greatest of cardio shape in my opinion but anyway.....

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Dana tries to get Chuck the easiest fight to get the title back. They're like brothers and while anything can happen in a fight (lucky sucker punch from Chuck) but they might be overlooking Griffin as we all have. The guy has improved by leaps and bounds but he is vulnerable to the big punch, Jackson almost caught him.
