NHL to fight Radulov deal
As the NHL explores the veracity of Alexander Radulov's deal to play for the Continental Hockey League this fall, the Predators are operating under the assumption that -- foreign contract or no -- Radulov will be on the ice in Nashville next season. "We fully expect him to be with us next season, and hopefully he will be with us for a lot of years to come," Predators General Manager David Poile said. On Friday, Radulov's NHL agent, Jay Grossman, confirmed reports out of Russia that the young forward signed a three-year deal worth $13 million tax-free and does not plan to return to Nashville for the 2008-09 season. Throwing the move in question, however, is the fact that it came within hours of the NHL and the International Ice Hockey Federation reaching an agreement not to plunder players under contract in other leagues.

If idiots such as Alexander Radulov want to play in mother Russia, let them! Why would you want someone on your team who doesn't want to be there? He'll just poison the atmosphere in the locker room and never give 100% effort on the ice anyway. Let him go and let him freeze his cohones off in the Gulag!

I agree,
The sad thing is, it is seeming that the Europeans are the ones complaining and always wanting mroe out of the NHL, adn yet they give nothing back to it! Radulov pretty much just **** E D slapped the NHL and preds in the face! Why let him back, let him go make his money the greedy P R I C K!

Jesus grab some brains you lot! The NHL (read Pittsburgh) poach Malkin while he is under contract to a Russian team and then you complain when someone wants to go the other way. Nixonfire to say that the Europeans give nothing back to the NHL is pure BS and not worthy arguing about. Individuals may act that way but to classify an entire continents playing population as complaining and selfish only illuminates your own ignorance.

I am under the understanding that he has a contract with Nashville for 08-09. If so, He SHOULD abide by the terms of the contract if he wants to play in NHL again in the future. Does he have to? Well thats where the question gets interesting.
If he does go to Russia to play I would encourage all NHL teams not to sign him in the future. But some team will sign him if he does well in Russia. So the problem is that the individual teams do solely what is best for themselves but not the league.
So......

Plunder. An excellent word, that is.

Radulov signed his deal before the new international agreement was in place.
So **** him. The NHL doesn't need his average talent anyway.
Going forward, contracts should be honored both ways.

TO CLARIFY SINCE YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NOT REALLY UNDERSTOO THE COMMENT, I WAS NOT SAYIGN THAT THE EUROPEAN NATIONS AS A WHOLE. MORE SO JUST THE PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE! THEY HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT CRITICS OF THE GAME! A COMPLETE MOCHARY OF THE RULES ADN ITS MEMBERS! THEY DO NOTHING BUT WINE, DIRTY DIRTY PLAYERS, AND YET DISRESPECT WHAT HAS BEEN OFFERED TO THEM FOR A CAREER! SO BEFORE YOU START ILLUMINATING MY IGNORANNCE AS YOU PUT IT, USE COMMEN SENSE AND RELATE THE COMMENTS TO THE SUBJECT!

Nixonfire I said playing population i.e. their players. Do you think Salming, Makarov, Fetisov, Kurri, Lidstrom etc etc have been and are critics of the game? You are a moron and a rascist and should be ashamed.

There's a double standard for the NHL. It's okay for European players to opt out of their contracts in favor of the NHL. But heaven forbid the other way around!

Easy as this, you have a contract & renege...any signing bonuses are needed to be returned, unable to return to the league for the length of any prior contract (3yrs remaining & you renege, you can't re-sign for 3 years).
Honestly, it has been a one way deal for years & now Europe & Russia are starting to pony up the $. NHL needs to sign a reasonable agreement with the IIHF.

You guys are pretty sad really. Stop crying because some players are choosing to play in Russia rather than in the NHL, especially Russian-born players who may like the idea of playing at home. The NHL has been stealing Europeans (ie. Malkin) while under contract for a long time. Yes it's not nice to see and the new agreement should stop this in the future, but you guys are all so hilariously hostile towards the players for choosing to play outside of the NHL. Get over yourselves, the NHL is not some exclusive club and players can choose whether or not playing there is what they want. Don't act like going to Russia is all about money, coming to the NHL in the first place was about the money for many players. These guys are human beings and it is there life and there choice so grow up and stop advocating some sort of boycott against players who go to Russia, especially if done so without breaking a contract (Radulov's was completed before the new agreement).
We all know the NHL is the best league in the world, but that doesn't mean it is the only league players can choose to play in. Grow up and stop these ridiculous attacks on players simply based on their league choice.

This is a good idea. Only if you're under contract to one or the other. If the players know they're going to lose money by jumping contracts then they'll be a bit more careful about how they scorn the league they're presently signed for.
