A team source indicated today that the Pistons are not "remotely" close to a deal for Houston Rockets superstar Tracy McGrady. Metronews.ca, which is based in Toronto, said in an Internet report -- but cited no sources -- that the Pistons are "making a big push for McGrady." The Pistons source downplayed the report, saying the Rockets are just one of many teams to whom the club has spoken about potential trades."

McGrady is still an elite player, but has plenty of miles on his body. I remember him saying lasts season, that he would never be his old self again, too many injuries and setbacks. How much would they give up for a guy who misses a lot of time? Depends on the details... I am sure Rip Hamilton and some other players/picks will go the other way.

billups for tracy - houston gets a much needed true pg and a proven leader.
det gets a legit scorer. haand over the keys to stucky

Did he get passed the first round when he was in the East with the Magic?

Anyway, he would be a nice 2nd option, don't let him dribble the ball too much though, or he will just jack up the 3s, just like how Carter does.

Maybe bringing him and Carter on the same team would light up the fire...maybe

July 13, 2008  09:32 AM ET

He is too brittle and does not play a full season. that and the little thing about not winning a playoff series.

July 13, 2008  09:39 AM ET

Just like Brett Favre shot down all those rumors about coming back and now look he wants in ... I would throw this trade idea in the garbage yet.

July 13, 2008  09:58 AM ET

Detroit really dont need McGrady..However, it would be interesting who they would trade to get him though..

July 13, 2008  09:58 AM ET

The Pistons can't get to the Finals. Signing McGrady would mean a 1st round exit.

That's an upgrade?

Bad idea

July 13, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Trade Richard Hamilton, Cheick Samb, Chauncey Billups, Arron Afflalo, and a future 2nd round pick to Houston for Tracy McGrady, Luther Head, Chuck Hayes, and Rafer Alston.

Pistons:
C - Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess, Theo Ratliff, Trent Plaisted
PF - Jason Maxiell, Amir Johnson, Walter Sharpe
SF - Tayshaun Prince, Chuck Hayes, Walter Herrmann, Deron Washington
SG - Tracey McGrady, Luther Head, Juan Dixon
PG - Rodney Stuckey, Rafer Alston, Lindsey Hunter

Rockets:
C - Yao Ming, Dikembe Mutombo, Cheick Samb
PF - Luis Scola, Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey
SF - Shane Battier, Donte' Greene, Mike Harris, Maarty Leunen
SG - Richard Hamilton, Brent Barry, Arron Afflalo
PG - Chauncey Billups, Aaron Brooks, Bobby Jackson, Steve Francis

Sure, Juan Dixon, Walter Herrmann, Lindsey Hunter, Theo Ratliff and Dikembe Mutombo, Carl Landry, Mike Harris, Loren Woods are still free agents, but this would make both teams true contenders.

Sorry about the tade proposal.....

How does McGrady fit in with Detroit? Whatever happened to team chemistry? I guess going into debt for Detroit is an option too. I guess also that the piston's have no faith in the draft picks they acquired. So much for faith....perhaps it is becoming too COSTLY.

McGrady wanted out of Toronto long ago because he didn't like being in Vince Carter's shadow, but it would be interesting to see how that combo would have panned out. McGrady still has not won a playoff series, and his body seems fragile.

Detroit, in my opinion, is better served keeping their core intact and finding another big man. Billups, Hamilton and Prince are the core of that team. I would rather have any of them than T-Mac.

July 13, 2008  11:16 AM ET

he probably wants out of houston. the cavaliers should try and get him, he's a good 2nd option and a willful passer.

July 13, 2008  12:13 PM ET

send t mac to bulls for deng gordon an hinrich

July 13, 2008  12:22 PM ET

Why would the Rockets send him anyway? No thanks

July 13, 2008  01:07 PM ET

Tmac is better than any player on the Pistons. He is probably the best passing non-pg in the league. It's as if you guys have never seen him play. I would trade anyone on the Pistons for him.

July 13, 2008  01:37 PM ET

McGrady only plays defense when he wants to and thats not Piston sBasketball!!! I dont believe this one!!!!

July 13, 2008  01:54 PM ET

T-Mac is fine in Houston, they had a great run at the end of the season and all they need is a healthy Yao.Adelman did an amazing job developing a great chemistry with his players. What Rockets needs to do is too "cut"T-Mac and Yao minutes (37min avg) to somewhere between 32 and 34 min to keep them fresh for the playoffs, with Bobby Jackson finally healthy and with the addition of Brent Barry I think they are gonna be really motivated for the next season...

July 13, 2008  01:58 PM ET

oh and Dumars is just bluffing...the Pistons are fine they really talented and their chemistry is great...more discipline and keep Sheed with a short leash is gonna be fine...I expect to see them in the Finals next year...mark my words...
