Source: Jets won't pursue Favre

Brett Favre came much closer to being a Jet in 1991 than he will in 2008. They have virtually ruled out pursuing him if the Packers trade or release him. "It's a long shot right now that the Jets have any interest. I wouldn't spend any time on that," an NFL source familiar with the Jets' thinking told the Daily News Saturday. "I can't rule out 100% they won't have interest, but I would say it's 90%-95%. I would be very surprised if he wound up with the Jets."

1 team down... 31 more "<team name here> won't pursuse Favre". That means at least another month of these lame stories. I can't even get myself to read the articles anymore (I just look at the pictures).

No, but they will "pursue" Mangini if they go 4-12 again.

July 13, 2008  09:17 AM ET

THIS JUST IN: Lynn Dickey wants to un-retire.

July 13, 2008  09:20 AM ET

I didn't think they had the balls anyways.

July 13, 2008  09:27 AM ET

I don't think he would want to play for the Jets any way, they are too far from being playoff caliber.

yawn......a waste of time.

WE NEED BRETT FARVE A SUPER BOWL CHAMP THAT WOULD BRING US ONE TO

Like always we have made a bad choice ****

****

July 13, 2008  10:38 AM ET

You can officially rule out the NFC North.....the only other team would be Tampa as Peter King stated. The Packers did the right thing by calling Favre's hand. The bluff Will only work for GB and not for Bus Cook and Favre. Aside from that, the news is old and time to move on SI.

July 13, 2008  10:41 AM ET

If the packers release him what about the Giants...Eli isnt that good you know what I mean and they have the WR, RB, and defense to be contendors once again

July 13, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Eli isn't that good? He just won the fricking Super Bowl, idiot. He led his team to victory in Green Bay over Favre. What does the guy have to do?

July 13, 2008  10:49 AM ET

KG Fan Anything is possible ...I am sure you threw that out there just to get things going..OK< so I will play along.
What we do know is that Eli Manning out performed Garcia,Romo, Favre and Brady in the play offs in head to head competition...It does not make him better than them, but he was those four days...
Nice try though..

The Packers got beat on EVERY level by the Giants. Running (only 13 yards rushing!), line, D'Bakcs, WRs, RBS, Special Teams, etc. However, out of the Pro Bowl QBs that the Giants beat in the post season, Brett Favre played them better then Brady or Romo did.

July 13, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Yeah, and the Giants won the Super Bowl. With Eli.

I'm a Patriots fan, so I don't give a rip either way. But that's a stupid comment.

July 13, 2008  11:34 AM ET

The Jets don't really have a QB and here tehy have yet another chance to get one, and they sy, "we're not interested." Those seat licenses in teh new stadium are gonna be hard to swallow.

July 13, 2008  11:41 AM ET

Yea, it kind of was a stupid comment. Eli is a Super Bowl Champion QB, give him his props.

If I remember correctly, I don't think the Jets have a solid situation at QB. They are in no position to rule out Favre (or Lynn Dickey for that matter). 10-6 year? I thnk not...count on 2 loses to N.E. and Miami will be better. I think you're staring down the barrell of an 8-8 at best.

July 13, 2008  11:56 AM ET

Dont forget the 2 games they will lose to buffalo
