K-Rod's celebration irks A's

Francisco Rodriguez punctuated his major league-leading 38th save with a celebration that was even more exuberant than usual Sunday, double-pumping his arms toward the ground and then thrusting them toward the sky after the Angels' 4-3 victory, a display of emotion that rankled some in the Athletics' dugout. "I don't think he's got too many fans in this clubhouse," Oakland designated hitter Jack Cust said of Rodriguez, who is seven for seven in save opportunities against the A's this season. Angels Manager Mike Scioscia defended Rodriguez, saying his closer's reactions are spontaneous and genuine and have nothing to do with the team he has just vanquished.

Hitters act like idiots after homeruns. Pitchers can show the same emotion.

July 14, 2008  07:50 AM ET

Scioscia's an idiot, but so are the wussy A's who complained about K-Rod's lame celebration. Don't want to see it again? Beat the Angels next time.

July 14, 2008  08:00 AM ET

Baseball players are so lame.. the only sport where the other team gets their feelings hurt if the other guy celebrates.. boo-hoo

Exactly, if stupid Manny ramirez can stare at a hr for an hour, pitchers should be able to do the same.

July 14, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Just as long as pitchers don't start acting like idiot NFL recievers with their end zone celebrations, what's wrong with some emotion?

July 14, 2008  08:45 AM ET

I hate how a lot of closers now celebrate it like they just won the World Series. But yeah, hitters admiring their homers is just as bad.

July 14, 2008  08:51 AM ET

It's a game. Guys having fun is apparently unprofessional. Reason #4402194 I rarely watch baseball.

July 14, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Was he fist-pumping?

July 14, 2008  09:11 AM ET

Having fun is great. But there's a point when it becomes obnoxious.

If he wants to celebrate, let him. Who really cares except for guys who generally suck? If I were K-Rod, I'd celebrate, then go kick Cust in the nuts after the last out.

This is why eveil clowns are banned from MLB participation.

he is perfect in saves going to the all start break, i would celebrate too.. I don't think that he needs to many fans in the A's clubhouse...
