Clippers going after Iguodala?

The Los Angeles Clippers, who lost unrestricted free agent forward Elton Brand to the 76ers last week, are trying to determine which remaining free agent might best fit their needs. And, according to a rumor circulating through the NBA, it could be the Sixers' Andre Iguodala. The rumor suggested that the Clippers, via coach Mike Dunleavy, already have had contact with Iguodala, who was in Las Vegas Saturday to watch the Sixers' summer league team play the Denver Nuggets. The contact, though, supposedly came in the days before that game.

don't see this happening. going to the Clippers in L.A. is like being the fat girl at a dance. you're there but no one notices.

Just a question, but why would any star from the east go to a team in the west that's best hope is maybe the 7 or 8 seed if all the moons align?

Especially when his own team just beefed up significantly and could make some noise in the east?

Iguodala may sign an offer sheet from the Clippers, so the Sixers can match it. That's the only way he's getting some money from Philly.

July 14, 2008  06:35 AM ET

It would be a poetic justice for the Clippers. Why would anyone wanna live in Philly when they can live in L.A. Money talks my friends and A.I. will walk.

July 14, 2008  07:10 AM ET

Iguodala will go the Clippers. Who wouldn't want to play in LA?

July 14, 2008  08:05 AM ET

Igo, good analysis. Iguodala isn't making much money now, and has said before he plans to stay in Philly for a long time. He won't go anywhere... hes just looking to force Philly's hand.

July 14, 2008  08:07 AM ET

Go Clips try and F the Sixers like they F'd you. Maybe all the "experts" will get off the Sixers bandwagon and stop saying they are one of the best teams in the East if they lose Iguodala.

July 14, 2008  08:39 AM ET

Igoudala is overrated. If LA wants to pay this C+ star A+ dollars, then that's their problem. However, I don't think he is going anywhere unless Clippers make him an absolutely stupid offer (which is certainly plausible).

Elton Brand

July 14, 2008  08:49 AM ET

They're going to try - what better way to try to get back at Elton Brand high-school style than to mess with his new team's roster.

What the Clippers need to do is get some people with some sense in the front office that know how to run a professional franchise, not a d-league team.

July 14, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Clippers had the eggs in one basket for Brand with other players... what a mess..

July 14, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Actually, it makes perfect sense.
When the Clippers stole Baron Davis from Golden State, GS retaliated by taking Corey Maggette.
So, when Philly snatches Elton Brand from the Clippers, it makes sense for the Clippers to take Igoudala from them in return.
However, making sense, and it actually happening, are not always the same thing.

July 14, 2008  09:14 AM ET

There's almost no chance Iguodala will sign with the Clippers. He's a restricted free agent, so the Sixers are allowed to match anything LA offers him. The Clippers are bitter about the Elton Brand signing, so they're just trying to get back by driving up the price of Iggy's contract. If Iggy decides to be a good team player, he'll only negotiate with the Sixers. The Sixers should match anything Iggy gets offered, within reason.

July 14, 2008  09:21 AM ET

maxwellinformed, it's going to hail and snow today because you and I agree for once. LOL

Igoudala is vastly overrated, below-average shooter, overhyped defender and he could not put his team on his back and steal another game from the Pistons in the postseason, in fact he disappeared. Let him go.

July 14, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Iguodala would be stupid to move to LA....He'd be even dumber if he thinks he's a MAX player....He walked away from alot of money last year....and he'll wind up regretting it.

July 14, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Why all the hate on this guy? Wouldn't he be a good second option to Brand? I agree that this is mostly posturing on all sides - AI will go back to Philly.

This is just wishful thinking on the part on Dunleavy. He blew the Brand signing. This would take some of the heat off. Fuhgedaboutit!!!
