Three teams interested in Simms

Most people can identify with being in a bad relationship that needs to end. When the relationship first started, there was nothing but hope and promise. It originally seemed that person could be a good fit, but as things progressed, somebody, if not both parties, realized they were not compatible. Then it was time to move on. This basically summarizes the dysfunctional relationship between the Bucs and Chris Simms, the unhappy quarterback who wants out, but whose team will not let him go. We learned last week that Dallas, Chicago and Detroit are interested in Simms. There are plenty more rumors to come, and no matter which team Simms plays for this season, he will be a backup - except in Tampa. That is why it is time for the Bucs to let go and move on.

He is not worth ANYTHING because they will cut him by preseason !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then one of those teams can pick him up without trading

Why is the NFL so QB needy? Still can't figure that out.

The most amazing thing that I read in this story is that three teams are interested in Chris Simms.

July 14, 2008  08:50 AM ET

the real three teams are the Rehine Fire, Iowa Barnstormers and Dallas Desperadoes. those teams I'd believe. even thosugh the euro league is gone he can still go there and get far away from a NFL team. he is looking more like Rick Meir.

One thing working for Simms and against Tampa Bay is that the roster rules have gotten a lot more strict now. They can only have 80 players under contract at a time. Gruden can't keep 6 QBs in camp without completely screwing up the depth at the rest of the positions.

The fact that Brody Croyle, Rex Grossmann, and Kyle Boller were starting QBs last year tells you just how thin the talent level is at QB in the league right now.

Because most teams throw them out too early and they lose confidence pretty quick..

Simms will never be a great QB and with his past health issues.. a risk. He can however be a solid backup for several teams.

I'd think the Bears would be interested in ANY QB.

July 14, 2008  10:12 AM ET

this guy is gonna fall apart as soon as someone hits him....but he does need to get out of Tampa...what is Gruden's obsession with having more than 3 qbs on the roster.....i dont get it

July 14, 2008  10:13 AM ET

he should go to chicago since he would fit right in with the rest of their QB's he might actully be a step up from the current losers that can't get it done.

Being that Simms played in Tampa, the idiots who make the decisions for the Lions will be all over him. I have heard that they want to convert Simms to WR.

Fire Millen, and take that high school coach with you!

July 14, 2008  11:02 AM ET

two teams ... dallas has no interest.

July 14, 2008  11:36 AM ET

I doubt Dallas has much interest in Simms, he has no criminal record that I know of. Chris Henry however...

July 14, 2008  11:57 AM ET

It's not Phil? forgetaboutit

July 14, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Detroit would be the best place for him. no one cares for him nor the Lions. perfect fit

July 14, 2008  01:17 PM ET

Detroit Lion's pre requisites:1) Player -> played for Tampa Bay
2) Coach -> last name starts with "M"
3) GM -> must be useless

July 14, 2008  01:36 PM ET

Does Simms have any college eligibility left?

July 14, 2008  02:09 PM ET

Chicago: home of broke down QBs. Simms will fit right in.

July 14, 2008  02:33 PM ET

Chicago and Detroit make sense but Dallas is only an option because he went to school at Texas.

I'm just glad that the Rams are no longer listed as a team showing interest in this guy
