Spurrier lauds choirboy QB

South Carolina football coaches were so starved for a player like Aramis Hillary they could say, hey, we recruited a quarterback, not a choirboy. The only hang-up? Hillary does not have character issues. In fact, he is a choirboy. Hillary has yet to take a snap at a Gamecocks practice, might never rise above fourth on the depth chart and was not a nationally ranked recruit. Yet he has received as much attention in the offseason as any USC quarterback not named Stephen Garcia. "Watch out for Aramis Hillary," coach Steve Spurrier said this summer. "This young man loves football, and he loves everything about playing quarterback, loves South Carolina. So who knows what all's going to happen this year."

Are legal troubles really so prominent now that just because you have a clean record, you're dubbed a 'choirboy'?

Even choirboys aren't "choirboys." He probably sang in chorus for the poonany.

July 14, 2008  11:36 AM ET

A choirboy playing for Satan, that should be interesting.

July 14, 2008  11:57 AM ET

What's considered a choirboy in the sec? A one page rap sheet?

July 14, 2008  12:30 PM ET

Never heard of him-
know nothing about him.......
BUT.....

I don't want 'choirboys' on my football team.
I want MEAN, NASTY TERMINATORS

Hey Lonestar, why don't you check on the other big name programs that have legal problems with their players like Ohio State, Texas, and even USC. Don't hate on the SEC b/c there's a lot of big name programs who have had success.

How 'bout 'em | 07/14/08, 12:42 PM

Well if it ain't one of the dawgs trying to justify the 7 off season arrests at Georgia by talking about a winning program. Question is "At What Cost?"

July 14, 2008  01:53 PM ET

HA! Someone who goes by "LoneStarMan" is talking smack about the SEC's legal problems? Puh-lease. I would think Texas fans would be worried about UT's issues FIRST. So, tell me LoneStarMan, how is life in that glass house?

July 14, 2008  01:54 PM ET

Hey eyesWIDEopen if you think Spurrier is Satan, than what in the World do you think of Meyer he already OWNS the,
FSUcks Semiwhores.
And, if you call Bobby Bowden God, seriously what in the hell are you cutting up right now, because you are snorting some REAL ****!

July 14, 2008  01:57 PM ET

eyes will never get over it!

July 14, 2008  01:58 PM ET

Lonestar is that Luke Perry?

July 14, 2008  02:17 PM ET

DimSum, it is true that Mr. Meyer has had our number since arriving in Gainesville. I was simply commenting on Stevie, who NEVER won a game in Tally, but always had some stupid remark to make about our program after we sent him back to Gatorland with his tail between his legs. And no, I don't think Coach Bowden is a god, as I am an atheist. I do, however, think that he has MORE WINS THAN ANYONE, and knowing how badly that must eat at Stevie is satisfaction enough.

Yard Bird, no, I won't ever "get over it". I have no ill-will towards South Carolina in particular, but your coach is a classless lowlife. Coach Bowden is above making negative comments about Stevie, but I'm not. That egomaniacal jerk has said some despicable things about our program, university, coaches, and players. He deserves EVERY BIT of ridicule that Seminole fans can dish out!

July 14, 2008  02:21 PM ET

Dont you see Stevie is getting his payback right now! I think Bowden is a great guy also, Bobby not Tammy

July 14, 2008  02:29 PM ET

He's only spent 1/10 of his life in juvy/jail.

The SEC is like a magnet for d0uchebag head coaches and players with a rap sheet. It's pretty sad IMHO.

July 14, 2008  02:36 PM ET

Like I said Yard Bird, no ill-will towards South Carolina from me. SC is a respectable program playing in the toughest conference in the land, IMO... but I will go to my grave HATING Steve Spurrier. I swear, just hearing that idiot's name makes me tense up. I honestly wish he had landed at a program that I actually DON'T like, then I could hate him even MORE!!!
