C.J. Wilson needed something -- a spark, a slap in the face -- and he got it from White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. The Rangers' closer was in the midst a of potential meltdown -- having already allowed three runs on five hits in the ninth inning -- when he heard Guillen taunting him from the visiting dugout. "I didn't have good stuff, and then I got angry when Ozzie Guillen started yelling at me, and I just took it to another level," Wilson said of striking out Jim Thome and Paul Konerko looking to end a 12-11 Texas win. "I wish I could have taken it to that level right away and then been out of there with a couple of pitches."

That's right. Any of you little-league coaches that are reading this, take note. If one of your players is not performing up to par, TAUNT and ridicule him. That's how you get athletes to take it to 'another level'.

yeah or suspend the guy because his mom misses a "shift" at the concession stand.

Say, aren't managers supposed to help their OWN teams win??

July 14, 2008  07:18 AM ET

how much does wilson make? i thought salary should be enough incentive to take it to the next level...

It's weird. I don't remember Guillen being such a horse's arse when he was a player. It is like he is regressing in maturity with every year of his life.

Ozzie you taunt people to rattle them. Why would you taunt someone who's already getting rocked? You stay quite and hope it continues.

Thank you Ozzie. The Twins had a tough seven game road trip through Boston and Detroit and ended up losing no games in the standings. Keep lose gums a flapping.

Oh, Ozzie...when shall ye learn, hahaha.

This managers mouth is crazy.. needs to focus on his own team and leave the crap talk out... they actually have a good team this year but knowing this bigmouth he will talk them right out of the race.

One thing about Ozzie, when he talks **** he gets results! HE bagged his own team and they went on a run and now he's inspiring the opposition. Nice one.

Guess that taunting backfired, huh, Ozzie?

July 14, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Ozzie = Punk beeeotch, plain and simple. He is a disgrace to managers throughout the league. If he would tame his act down he could be good. If you are going to be a thorn in the Umpires side...do it with style. Sweet Lou is a classic when it comes to the art of getting launched from the game. I am an Angels fan and when Sciossia get punted from the Texas game last week I thought it was hilarious. Ump basicaly said "shut your hole" and he barked out something from the dugout and OUT HE WENT!

ozzy is going to help everyone in the AL cen. everyone one but his own team.. unless he is trying to lose so that he also loses his JOB!!!!

Apparently Ozzie taunting him while Quentin and Dye weren't up didn't really fire Wilson up all that much.

No, he waited for the true powerhouses, 80 year old Jim Thome (who can't hit left-handers) and Paul Konerko's corpse. I think what Wilson meant to say was "I took it to another level when I was facing two over-the-hill power hitters. I wish I could have faced these guys all inning, then I really would have looked locked in."
