Jacobs: Bruins not for sale

Posted: Monday July 14, 2008 06:18AM ET

While the Bruins' prospects twirled around the Ristuccia Arena ice last week, rumors once again swirled around the Hub that Jeremy Jacobs, chairman of the Black and Gold, had his hockey club up for sale. "He's shopping it to his billionaire buddies," said one non-team source who deals on a regular basis with members of the Bruins' front office. Not true. At least according to Charlie Jacobs, the family's point man on Causeway Street, and according to his father. "I can say with great confidence that it's not on the market," said the junior Jacobs. "My dad enjoys operating the team and having a say in what happens here, as do I."

-One thing we know about Jacobs is that he never means what he says.
-Another thing we know about Jacobs is that he never says what he means!
-And another thing we know about Jacobs is to expect the opposite of what he says.

That this rumor has actually circulated suggests there's something to it. Let's face it, Jacobs stopped making money on the Bruins years ago as he chased fans away.

Yup,thats why the building is not packed anymore. The fans have had it. To be fair though, the current GM and Neely are righting the ship. O'Connell and Sinden destroyed the once proud rabid fan base. They had the worst plan after the lock-out. They let Knuble,Rolston,Nylander go. They traded Boynton and Thornton ( although i have gotten over the No-Show-Joe trade). Now the B's are in rebuilding mode. Its not a bad rebuild,eh?

I wonder if Balsillie is interested in buying the Habs and moving them to Quebec? hahhahahha.jk, PopKing.

The Bruins are improving!!!! Boston rules!!!!!!

Report Offensive Comment

Too bad, I was about to make an offer to buy them...
;-)

bgm whats Neely doing? Didnt know he was involved...one of my favs.

Report Offensive Comment

Neely is a "special assistant to the GM". I have no idea what his job entails. I think he just helps to lure free agents. His job could be more than that,i'm really not sure.

Report Offensive Comment

And you call yourself bostongm...hrmmmpph.

Report Offensive Comment

Hhahahha,Pete. I deserved that one. I was wrong to begin with. His title "special assistant to the GM" is wrong. He's actually the Vice President of the Bruins. Hhahahhaha. I was close, wouldnt you say?

Report Offensive Comment

Just fookin wit ya bgm..

Bob Kraft should buy the B's. I don't think Jacobs will ever sell the team though. I believe he owns the Bank North Garden, so whatever money he doesn't make on the B's, which i'm not sure he isn't making money on them, he certainly generates from the Celtics lease, concerts, and other events. I can see him maybe stepping back in a smaller role but I believe his brother would take over the owner role. Either way, his name will still be on the organization in some capacity. It's too bad... as a 34 year old Bruins fan, Jacobs has ruined many a season for me for being such a tightwad.. especially before the salary cap era. Bourque should have won a cup with the Bruins and there were a few teams that were close but Jacobs and Sinden refused to add a few players to take them to the next level.

Report Offensive Comment

Bruins need a Bob Kraft-type owner, one who truly has a fans perspective and passion for the team and wants to see it succeed.

Report Offensive Comment

Careful, Boston fans, Balsaille is out there to get (buy) you and move your team to Hamilton, ON!
Just kidding. I'll stop watching hockey if the Bruins stop exisitng. BTW, I like them this year; they are solid at every position. Bostongm, any latest (good) nes on Bergeron's return?

Report Offensive Comment

This is the worst news I have heard all day... he won't be happy till he has burned the team into the ground. Go to hell Jeremy Jacobs.

Report Offensive Comment

He's 100% and he's been symptom free for the last 2-3 months and he's gaining his strength back. I believe he's at 193 pounds right now. He couldve played in the play-offs (the games 5,6, &7) but the docs played it safe with him.(to me that was the right way to go as well). He also cant wait for the next season to begin. In short,he's good to go.

Report Offensive Comment

That's good to hear, BGM.

bostongm:
Balsilie is only interested in relocating teams which have poor attendance and lack fan support. You have to admit, the Bruins are way down the totem pole in the New England sports scene. The Celtics winning the NBA title surely doesn't help. Let's see--Red Sox: champions
Patriots--almost undefeated and AFC champions
Celtics--NBA champions
Bruins--honourable metion on "Coaches Corner" with Don Cherry.
Maybe moving them to Hartford would be realistic.

Hhahahahha....PopKing. You're a funny guy. An Original Six club being relocated? hhahahhahahaha. Can you pass me the joint after you've had your puff?

Man, The Thorton trade was the worst salary dump **** you fans move Iv'e ever seen !
No wonder they got no fans !
I mean it's okay to trade your star if you want to, but Thornton for Brad Stuart and Marco Sturm ?
That's not a good return ?
