Jacobs: Bruins not for sale

While the Bruins' prospects twirled around the Ristuccia Arena ice last week, rumors once again swirled around the Hub that Jeremy Jacobs, chairman of the Black and Gold, had his hockey club up for sale. "He's shopping it to his billionaire buddies," said one non-team source who deals on a regular basis with members of the Bruins' front office. Not true. At least according to Charlie Jacobs, the family's point man on Causeway Street, and according to his father. "I can say with great confidence that it's not on the market," said the junior Jacobs. "My dad enjoys operating the team and having a say in what happens here, as do I."

Haaaa....

-One thing we know about Jacobs is that he never means what he says.
-Another thing we know about Jacobs is that he never says what he means!
-And another thing we know about Jacobs is to expect the opposite of what he says.

Too bad, I was about to make an offer to buy them...
;-)

Bob Kraft should buy the B's. I don't think Jacobs will ever sell the team though. I believe he owns the Bank North Garden, so whatever money he doesn't make on the B's, which i'm not sure he isn't making money on them, he certainly generates from the Celtics lease, concerts, and other events. I can see him maybe stepping back in a smaller role but I believe his brother would take over the owner role. Either way, his name will still be on the organization in some capacity. It's too bad... as a 34 year old Bruins fan, Jacobs has ruined many a season for me for being such a tightwad.. especially before the salary cap era. Bourque should have won a cup with the Bruins and there were a few teams that were close but Jacobs and Sinden refused to add a few players to take them to the next level.

Bruins need a Bob Kraft-type owner, one who truly has a fans perspective and passion for the team and wants to see it succeed.

July 14, 2008  06:00 PM ET

Careful, Boston fans, Balsaille is out there to get (buy) you and move your team to Hamilton, ON!
Just kidding. I'll stop watching hockey if the Bruins stop exisitng. BTW, I like them this year; they are solid at every position. Bostongm, any latest (good) nes on Bergeron's return?

July 14, 2008  06:19 PM ET

This is the worst news I have heard all day... he won't be happy till he has burned the team into the ground. Go to hell Jeremy Jacobs.

July 14, 2008  07:25 PM ET

That's good to hear, BGM.

bostongm:
Balsilie is only interested in relocating teams which have poor attendance and lack fan support. You have to admit, the Bruins are way down the totem pole in the New England sports scene. The Celtics winning the NBA title surely doesn't help. Let's see--Red Sox: champions
Patriots--almost undefeated and AFC champions
Celtics--NBA champions
Bruins--honourable metion on "Coaches Corner" with Don Cherry.
Maybe moving them to Hartford would be realistic.

Man, The Thorton trade was the worst salary dump **** you fans move Iv'e ever seen !
No wonder they got no fans !
I mean it's okay to trade your star if you want to, but Thornton for Brad Stuart and Marco Sturm ?
That's not a good return ?

July 14, 2008  09:04 PM ET

I'd have Kessel on my team anytime I like that kid.
Chara and Savard are corner stones too.
The Bruins will be just fine .

Cam is everybody's perenial favorite! What's he doing? Other than yacking it up with the media and smiling big for the cameras ..... not a d*amn thing! But .... he's getting paid with Jacobs' money so ..... that's a good thing!

July 15, 2008  02:22 AM ET

If Chara is 6'9'', how tall is this photographer?

July 15, 2008  08:33 AM ET

bostongm:
You know I'm just having fun with you. The best thing for hockey right now is to have the Bruins and Black Hawks successful again. They are both in cities where they are low on the totem pole (how would you like to compete with TWO baseball teams if you're the Hawks?). By the way, a team in Quebec would be just fine with me.
