Cavs making progress with Gibson

Wish I could report the Cavs being on the verge of a blockbuster trade or free-agent signing, but the only thing that seems likely to happen soon is the signing of restricted free-agent guard Daniel Gibson. Progress is being made, but the deal is not done. Nonetheless, this is good news, especially after ridiculous holdouts last season by restricted free-agents Sasha Pavlovic and Anderson Varejao, costing both players all of training camp and perhaps leading to some injuries in the regular season.

Rick, you really need a name change.

Might I suggest, "I'm Rick James, ****."

Gibson is LeBron's boy. The Cavs will get this done to keep Lebron happy. He is a dependable outside threat. He is among the league leaders in 3 point field goal percentage. Danny Ferry can't seem to get anything else done. Gibson should be a no-brainer.

Boobie is Brons boy he will be happy...till he goes to New York.

They need to re-sign him ......
nice solid player.

Also - with a reasonable contract- he would be a good piece in a trade for a veteran shooter if they decide to go elsewhere down the road

July 14, 2008  11:54 AM ET

He's solid but he's definitely not the help that LeBron needs for that team. To me he's Damon Jones but younger.

July 14, 2008  12:04 PM ET

I like Gibson but he is not good enough to help James, maybe he could be in a trade with Jones and get some proven guy.

gibson will develop into a great player he's played in 2 years people!

Boobie spreads the court very well. You don't trade, one of the best knock down shooters in the game, when you have one. Gibson is a VITAL piece to the CAVS. Besides LeBron liking him, he's proven himself. And he did it in the playoffs when it counted most. Give him another two good seasons, he'll be like a baby Rip Hamilton.

If they think Gibson is what you consider help for LeBron, then they are CRAZY!!! But it's a good start at PG.

July 14, 2008  02:54 PM ET

hes a good 3rd or 4th option but not a 2.

July 14, 2008  02:59 PM ET

Agreed Joe Dew. Boobie isn't Daron Williams, AI, or Chris Paul. However, he's good at what he does, MAKE THE OPEN SHOT. His off the ball game needs to improve, then he'll be a constant threat, instead of a catch and shoot guy. By the way, Boobie isn't new to the CAVS, so I wouldn't consider him help, he was already there.

July 14, 2008  03:00 PM ET

but if they keep him he'll turn into a #2 option! he's only gonna get better!!!

July 14, 2008  04:07 PM ET

If this guy is your No. 2 option, then you just ain't gonna be that good.
