Cubs asking about shortstop Greene

Padres shortstop Khalil Greene recently attracted an inquiry from the Chicago Cubs, but because Greene's trade value has dropped so far, the Padres will hold onto him, according to a club official. Greene is batting .216 with eight home runs and 11 doubles. He is in a 1-for-28 slump. For the season, he is 2-for-29 with men in scoring position and two outs. Greene, who is guaranteed $6.5 million next season, is still regarded as above-average defensively.

And the greedy jsut get greedier!

This move would of killed them i think,

your right you have 3 very talents SS's and to try and juggle one more, with a contract of that size, you would hope he was a .298 hitter with a little more gap power than 11 doubles!

The Riot is the man for the future here. He just needs to work a little more defensivley and up his stolen base %. Greene is alright but strikes out alot and is having a DOWN year

As a Padres fan and huge Greene fan, his dismal offensive numbers are a mixed blessing to me. He sure as hell isn't helping the Padres any this year offensively but that same problem is also keeping him undesirable to other teams. By the way folks, his offensive numbers WILL improve and at some point (probably late August when it won't matter to San Diego at all?).
Greene is also clearly the most underrated defensive shortstop in all of baseball, and at that position in the field is much much better than the two All-Star shortstop starters tonight (defensively) any day. Despite the rough year Khalil is having at the plate I am still a huge fan of his and would be/will be crushed if he were to be moved elsewhere.

dont forget cendeno is having a pretty good year too
why would we need him?

Theriot has proven valuable and his average at .317 vs Greene's .215 shoukld make this no discussion at all. Fontenot has been hitting lately and we need to let them roll!

your righ, Cedeno and Fontenot are both better in my eyes the Greene. What happened to the Khalil Greene that was a beast in college??
