Posey favors Celtics return

James Posey and Eddie House, key reserves in the Celtics' NBA championship run last season, last night expressed a desire to remain with the team, in their first public comments regarding free agency. Posey played down the possibility of returning to Cleveland, his hometown, though an NBA source said the Cavaliers might up the ante in an effort to get a talented player to aid LeBron James. Other teams interested in Posey include Detroit, New Orleans, Washington, and the Lakers. Mark Bartelstein, who represents both Posey and House, hoped to have something in place yesterday, but he said there was nothing new with either client. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge greeted Posey last night but said there was no news on the situation.

I hated Posey since the Miami days but after watching him rip my Lakers I have to give him credit. He was defiantly the X factor, if Posey was on the Lakers the out come may have been different. I hope the Lakers get him........I sell propane and propane accessories.

Good...stay with the Celtics. I don't want him to be a Laker...I can't stand him.

July 15, 2008  09:15 AM ET

good, good!

July 15, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Then stay, James. Ainge is going to make it worth your while....

July 15, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Tip for Posey..........go to New Orleans.

July 15, 2008  10:34 AM ET

Oh ya, and Eddie House would fit perfectly in Utah or a team like Toronto who needs a backup point guard. Staying in Boston would be a bad financial decision, but if you want to win a championship, staying in Boston would be smart.

Danny Ferry and the Cavaliers will wake up after LeBron leaves and they return to the team they once were.

July 15, 2008  11:12 AM ET

he should go for the money he has 2 rings...

July 15, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Danny Ferry better jump on this, like Marcus Camby jumped on him!

The Hornets need to do what it takes to sign him. They are built like a basketball team is supposed to be and work from the inside out with post ups and drives that kick out ( Posey loves to spot up for the 3 ). Also they are already a great defensive team ( just watch last year's playoffs ) and he would also add to that with his good team defense. They could use an atheltic 2 a lot more but he would definetly be a good addition that could push them over the top. All we needed last year was some timely big shots against the Spurs and we had them easy and with the inexperience we missed some of those but that is Posey's specialty. This is about a good as match as you can get...

That happens and i promise you we are looking at a Hornets - Celtics Finals this year.... (crossing my fingers the tissue soft Lakes dont get Artest , and if they do the fans of opposing teams get your beers ready... ha!)

July 15, 2008  07:30 PM ET

boston should go after a younger guy to keep up the tempo. boston needs talented young players to let the ageing big three get more rest, thus getting guys experience.

July 15, 2008  11:27 PM ET

like ron artest if they can tune him up it will be perfect...lol just kidding pierce is a hundred times better...

If Posey and House want to stay with the Celtics, they can definitely do so.
In general, it's good to keep a championship team intact for a few years in order to maintain team chemistry.
The only time a title team changes its roster is one of the two following reasons:
- The franchise stars don't like the teammate, and management trades that person.
- The role player decides he has enough rings and wants a bigger role and more money elsewhere.
For example, in the Bulls dynasty in the early 90's, only a few changes were made, and they were players that Jordan didn't get along with.
In the current case, Pierce gets along with Posey and House, so they are welcome to stay, unless they make their own choice to go elsewhere.
