Top USC basketball recruit DeMar DeRozan said that university officials have academically cleared him to immediately begin basketball activities with the Trojans. DeRozan, a 6-foot-6 forward from Compton High, was prepared to enroll in summer classes, most likely at Compton College, he said, to ensure he'd be eligible to play at USC. The development also muted rumors DeRozan would follow former Compton Dominguez High standout Brandon Jennings to play professionally in Europe. Awaiting his own SAT result, Jennings opted last week to forgo a season at Arizona before his expected 2009 entry into the NBA draft.

If you can ball, they can always pull a few strings for you. What does it matter what the kids academics are, he's going to be taking pre-algebra, women's studies and under water basket weaving for his one year at school.

He won't be at USC long enough to even take his first year final exams!

One-and-Done's are a joke.

Way to make a mockery of "College" Athletics. Mayo, Love, Beasley, Rose...this is killing college basketball but the NBA is loving it

it's not the players fault.....these idiot university people try to make money out of everything...just like they know that these players are one and done why complain after....

Gariboy, I thought we had an understanding? Irish-haters have been relentless so you felt the need for some get-back?

Anyways, to make kids have to go to college for one year is wrong. Especially, as Sonny Vaccaro pointed out, when a European/Chinese kid can come to the USA after high school and go straight to the NBA.

arejaydub...I always respect (don't always agree with) your comments and unlike many people on these sights that bash schools they hate for any reason at all (ie Charlie's weight, the Pope, priests, etc) I have great respect for USC. I am just not a big fan of Tim Floyd. Your beloved institution deserves better.

I'm tired of the NFL's sucking up to LA. Hell, Los Angeles is a two-time NFL loser. And still, the NFL keeps schmoozing and blowing in its ear.

Screw LA.
