Peyton Manning underwent surgery to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee, and rehabilitation for the Indianapolis Colts quarterback could last six weeks. That leaves Manning's status for the team's Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears uncertain. Team president Bill Polian described the surgery as "routine" in a statement and added the medical staff expects a full and complete return to action in four to six weeks.

Peyton is just like Brett Favre, in that he never misses a start. That would be huge news if he were not play in the opener.

Another pointless T&R...

July 15, 2008  08:11 AM ET

Peyton was probably going to handle the opener against the Bears as a bye week anyway.

July 15, 2008  08:16 AM ET

So let's see, if it takes the full six weeks, Manning is due to return on August 23...two full weeks before the opener. How exactly does that justify this headline or article?

Is T & R suggesting an infection at the surgical site requiring another procedure and thus extending the rehab? Just what is FanNation smoking these days?

He'll be there!

Another non story to fill in the pages...As stated, there is almost no chance Peyton will miss a season opener. Even if he just plays for awhile. Like only 4 quarters. ;)

So a "bursa sac" is in the knee? I always assumed it had something to do with man b00bs. Ya learn something new every day.

He won't miss. Peyton is a gamer.

So Peyton had his sac removed. I thought the Patriots had already done that.

"So Peyton had his sac removed. I thought the Patriots had already done that."

Ancient history, jackass. I seem to remember the Pats choking like Monica last time the two teams played in the playoffs.

they should have removed the yellow hammer out of him.

July 15, 2008  09:48 AM ET

He'll play in the opener. Do you suppose the Colt's backupQB even has a uniform?

July 15, 2008  10:02 AM ET

My bursa sac is itchy!

July 15, 2008  10:04 AM ET

If he misses that start, I will be completely shocked. He had a similar operation in college, and returned in about a month. Peyton will be fine. He hasn't missed a start yet.

July 15, 2008  10:06 AM ET

He'll play. If he doesn't win, the Colts will still win because the Bears are terrible.

You mean like the G-men did to Brady???

I came to work and was in a foul mood until I read the above statement. My day is bright. I do remember that AFC Championship game where the Pats were determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
