The N.B.A. has dismissed a published report that loosely implied that a second referee might have been involved in a gambling scheme. According to the report on FoxNews.com , Tim Donaghy , the disgraced former referee, made repeated telephone calls to another referee, Scott Foster, during the same period that Donaghy was providing inside information to professional gamblers. Donaghy pleaded guilty last August to two felonies and is awaiting sentencing.

Why doesn't the NBA just have a private investigation into the matter to clear their name. If this doesn't clear up soon its going to turn into the baseball/steriods issue. If the NBA has nothing to hide, and wants to avoid the "Ref Scandal" era of basketball, they need to do something quick. The NBA can't afford to have * by all their past good stories...

Bad decision NBA (Stern). They should do their best to clean the mess up. Turning their backs is not the answer. They beome more hypocretical if they do that. There are too many signs that points the NBA is corrupt, Just change the old refs to new young refs and start from scratch. You cannot teach old dog new tricks. These old refs can't change their ways. They are too bias. They have their own favorite players and teams. They congregate w/ the players and coach. Not a good thing to have.

July 15, 2008  09:23 AM ET

Attention Dictator Stern... this problem isn't going away anytime soon.

July 15, 2008  09:27 AM ET

**** Stern. You lying ****.

July 15, 2008  09:44 AM ET

seems to me you would want a clean bill of health on this issue, just saying there is no one else may not be enough.

July 15, 2008  09:58 AM ET

According to the report, Donaghy made those calls before and after 54 games in which he worked. He wasn't just calling to say hi. Stern is not nearly as smart as he's given credit for if he tries to continue ignoring this.

Investigate Stern perhaps?hmmm, im just thinking out loud...

July 15, 2008  11:11 AM ET

Stern is an moron, no let me capitalize that, MORON in all facets of the word!

July 15, 2008  11:13 AM ET

Is this on a par with the "second shooter theory" from the JFK reports ???

July 15, 2008  11:42 AM ET

There was a second ref. He was on the grassy noll.

Except for the fact they have a name and evidence tying the 2 refs together. There is no reason for these guys to be talking as much before games as they did unleess they are boyfriends or something shady is going on.

July 15, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Donaghy must know that prison time is dangerous for a canary.

July 15, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Donaghy... Stern will shut you up one way or the other.

July 15, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Stern is on the decline. his decision making is on the decline. He is not the dictator anymore. He must learn to adjust and start doing good things again for the league. All refs have to be changed now and train new ones. New refs that will not be bias and make calls base on rules not base on Superstar status, hate on certain team or player. All players should be refereed the same way no matter if you are a rookie or a veteran.

July 15, 2008  01:29 PM ET

There are obvious referess that makes the same mistake over and over again on the same team and that does not make sense. Review all the games and you can tell there is a difference a certain team or player is being refereed.

July 15, 2008  03:23 PM ET

REMEMBER ALL THIS MESS WAS SWEPT UNDER THE RUG WHEN DAVID STERN PAID KOBE AN EXTRA BONUS TO GO PUBLIC WITH HIS TRADE DEMAND....THAT TOOK THE MEDIA AWAY FROM THE REAL STORY....

July 15, 2008  04:39 PM ET

Naturally the NBA will rebuff the story as nonsense. They're thoroughly convinced the whole thing is with Donaghy when obviously there is far more out there. Stern does not want to admit that the rabbit hole goes far deeper than once thought...

Exactly. The evidence certainly suggests that more than one ref was involved.

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. (Btw, it's "knoll".)
However, humor aside, the facts in the ref scandal indicate that there were indeed more than one ref participating.
