Theo Epstein just responded to an E-mail I sent him in regard to the Mark Teixeira trade rumors that have been floating around the past two days. The ESPN report was that Sox and Braves were discussing Teixeira for Kevin Youkilis and Craig Hansen. Asked if there was anything to it, Epstein responded, "No, not at all."

Laughs.................if sites like this can`t get any lower :/

Sounds like a fair trade to me..............

July 15, 2008  08:31 AM ET

I'd take it..... a younger signable player instead of a Boras client..... works for me!

July 15, 2008  08:42 AM ET

SR Youkilis is a year older than Teixeira.

July 15, 2008  08:45 AM ET

I worded that poorly.... I know Tex is young 27/28.... I meant that he wasn't a Boras client who would be looking for $20M a year..... which is an overpayment for Texiera's skills..... which are very good.... but notice he has the next three days off....

July 15, 2008  08:50 AM ET

1B is a very tough position in the NL for All-star selection and awards. Pujols would be sitting home if he hadn't been selected by Hurdle. Derrek Lee is about the only Cub who is sitting home.

July 15, 2008  08:53 AM ET

True, but do you think .270 with 18 HRs are All Star numbers at 1B? Nobody thinks it's a snub that he's not on the team..... that's all I'm saying....

July 15, 2008  09:03 AM ET

Why not? Fukudome is going with .279 and 7HR's at a power position.

July 15, 2008  09:05 AM ET

I would rather have Youk than Tex. Teixiera has better numbers, but Youk is quietly replacing Varitek has the heart and soul of the club. Keep Youk, tell Tex to sign with the Orioles.

July 15, 2008  09:09 AM ET

Hold on. Since when is Tex not a Boras client? Because I'm pretty sure he is, unless he changed representation recently.

As for the deal, I love Tex, and I'd love for the Sox to get him. But Youkilis is a better fielder than him (and there aren't many 1Bs in the league who can say that) and he hits for average better. Plus, Youk's a fan favorite in Boston. I just don't think there's enough of a difference between Tex and Youk to justify the trade.

There are some things that can only be explained by ballot box stuffing.... Fukudome belongs in the All Star game as much as Kelly Johnson..... and he has those numbers at 2nd base and is rightly considered average.....

July 15, 2008  09:13 AM ET

Fro617: Stay with me now.... Tex IS a Boras client, You is NOT, which generally means Tex will be overpaid given that he's still young..... Boras only overplays his hand with older players that have no further upside..... I see Tex going to the Yankees ultimately with Giambi's contract up..... If the Yanks don't join the bidding, he might actually become affordable..... though I doubt that will happen....

July 15, 2008  09:13 AM ET

*Youk

July 15, 2008  09:26 AM ET

I love Youk but from an objective standpoint that is a pretty fair deal. It's essentially a straight-up Tex for Youk trade since Hansen still has yet to live up to his potential.

July 15, 2008  09:31 AM ET

While I'm on it, Boras normally does not sign extensions..... he likes to wait it out and play chicken..... he feels that the longer he waits, the better deal he'll get.... someone will eventually cave and overpay..... it does backfire sometimes, but that's what he does..... so with Boston not likely being able to sign Tex to an extension, and possibly losing him to the Yankees for next year, why would they make this trade?

July 15, 2008  09:35 AM ET

My question is what does Tex bring to the table that Youk doesn't besides being a switch hitter? Youk has been consistent, productive and is a better defensive player who can also fill in at third. Why make the trade?
