Why Favre is mad at Packers

Brett Favre wanted to clear the air Monday in his increasingly bitter standoff with the Green Bay Packers. He ended up kicking up a cloud of dust. Whether Favre provided some clarity in an interview with Fox News Network's Greta Van Susteren remains a matter of debate. What is clear is that Favre, in a carefully orchestrated chat with Van Susteren, a Wisconsin native and Packers shareholder, detailed anger and frustration with both the franchise and specifically general manager Ted Thompson over his future and his past. In the transcript, Favre expressed frustration with three incidents in the recent Packers past involving Thompson. In one instance, Favre told Van Susteren that "I worked my butt off two years ago to try to get them to sign Randy Moss," adding that he was willing to give up salary to land the talented receiver. But Favre said Thompson denied publicly that Favre had lobbied to get Moss, which Favre said was not the case. Moss signed with the New England Patriots. In a second instance, Favre said he once tried to convince Thompson to re-sign Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle, two key linemen, but the two got away and signed elsewhere. In a third case, Favre told Van Susteren he tried to convince Thompson to interview Steve Mariucci, an old friend, for the head coaching job vacated by Mike Sherman. Favre said Thompson ended up hiring Mike McCarthy instead.

It's as simple as this. They don't want Brett to start and they won't let him go. That is Chicken ****! Just let the man play somewhere else. That is crap and I would be going Crazy on Ted Thompson!

Now the whole story is out. It is obvious that TT has always wanted to go with his own guy, AR, his very first draft choice. It is also that Packer???s management has lied and stretched the truth to the public throughout this whole thing. Not saying Brett is the Saint here, but there have been gafs on both sides, not just Brett???s as the haters would have you believe.

He needs to start looking for a new job

I just hope people look at both sides of the story. But I'm guessing they'll all jump on Brett's wagon and curse the Packer's. Reminds me a lot of PSU and how Paterno is holding the school hostage. The pack have a right to move on and look to the future. The same with PSU. But it looks like both Paterno and Favre just can't let go, and it hurts their teams in the process.

I think Greenbay is trying to preserve his "Legacy" and maintain their revenues. So long as he remains a Packer, they can sell his Jersey, Have Brett Farve Day, etc. If he wants to play somewhere else, let him. It's the same thing Detroit did to Barry Sanders.

Self absorded is what BF is. Wow. What a pathetic interview. He blames the Packers for actually believing his tearful retirement and moving on.

Brett can't get over the fact that the "girl he dumped" is seeing someone else.

July 15, 2008  07:31 AM ET

Brett did retire and the team moved on. all they need to do is part ways and trade his butt to Miami. both men have handeled this poorly but Brett has held them hostage the past few years with his retirement talk. now his feelings are hurt when the team looks past the next two years and the long term success of the franchise. Grow up Brett. be a man and live with your choices.

July 15, 2008  07:34 AM ET

Not self absorbed at all, you are just not used to it because you are used to pro players feeding you the party line, which you enjoy instead of telling the truth. Brett speaks with his heart on his sleeve, get used to it.

July 15, 2008  07:52 AM ET

This is my problem, Brett has stated that he felt pressured into retiring. One of the toughest QBs to ever play the game and he felt pressured? Give me a break! Also with this interview he is sounding like a cry baby, Oh I told them I will give my salary for Randy, or please resign this guy, oh and by the way you really should sign Marriucci. I am sick and tired of these old football players who can not just hang them up, when it is time. Jerry Rice wouldn't go away so he jumped from the Raiders, Denver and then Seattle. Way to prolong your legacy Jerry. For as much as Brett has helped the Packers he is hurting them, one because for the past 3 years he can not make up his mind, and then finally when he "does" make up his mind and the Packers are ready to move on by drafting 2 QBs he says oh I want to come back. Two draft picks wasted! Brett stay retired your legacy as a great QB is sealed, however the drama you are causing, is leaving and off the field legacy one might not be to proud of. Stick to your word, if that means anything to you, stop throwing your team under the bus, and let them and the city of Green Bay move on.

No matter what Brett says at this point in time it will be perceived as sour grapes.
Get out of Green Bay Brett, you no longer fit Thompson's corporate mold.

Hey keep it to yourself. There is a lady present.

Why is Farve mad at Packers?
Because he is a big baby

July 15, 2008  08:20 AM ET

I am so sick of hearing about Brett Favre all over TV and all over the internet. The guy has held this franchise hostage for years with his "Will he/ Wont he Retire" shtick. He finally decided to "retire" and Greenbay moved on. Then favre decides he wants back in the fold and Greenbay is supposed to just drop everything for him? They drafted Aaron Rodgers YEARS AGO because Favre was wishy washy every off-season about retiring...this has been going on for years!

What he has done is made the Packers and Ted Thompson look like the bad guys here when in reality, Brett Favre is a diva. He loves the attention. He loves being pursued and wanted and when the Packers moved on, he pulls this crap. They wanted him back all along but he retired so they moved on. Now he wants to come back again? I applaud the Packers for putting their foot down and saying "Ya know what? Enough's enough. You've held this franchise hostage for years. You're gone. You retired. We've moved on. "

With that said, they should just release him. Let him go tarnish his legacy somewhere else if that's what he wishes. What franchise quarterback, besides maybe Montana, has left "HIS FRANCHISE" and gone on to have any sort of success? Anyone remember Unitis with the Chargers or Namath with the Rams? His legacy is as a Packer. Thats what people will remember him by so release him, let him look selfish and foolish in another uniform and in 5 years, nobody will remember he even did it.

July 15, 2008  08:20 AM ET

America's Legend.. it's not chicken**** at all.. it' called BUSINESS. He retired and they own his rights so they can do whatever the hell they want. They don't have to release him and they shouldn't.

A player has a right to "unretire" if he chooses to do so as it can't be an easy decision to make. The team has a right to move forward if they choose to do so. At most, Brett has 1 maybe 2 years left. Green Bay should get what they can for him and let him play elsewhere. It's not about who is right and who is wrong, just do the sensible thing.
