Jones to Bears or Steelers

Really, the Bears have been jonesing for a running game since trading Thomas Jones to the Jets in March 2007, a month after their last Super Bowl appearance. Can Kevin Jones help supply the potent 1-2 punch that has been missing since then? Apparently, the Bears are curious enough to take a good look at the ex-Lions running back, a former first-round draft pick who believes he can return to 1,000-yard form after two serious injuries the last two seasons. NFL sources said Jones was to take a physical and visit Halas Hall on Tuesday, one week before the Bears open training camp. Agent Tony Fleming told the Tampa Tribune late Monday that Jones would sign with the Bears or Steelers on Tuesday. Jones told the Tribune last month that the Bears would be his top choice among potential teams interested in him.

He would be a good fit in Detroit. The backfield is crowded enough it Pittsburgh

I always wondered why the Bears traded Thomas Jones in the first place.

Don't need him here inthe Burgh, unless of course he beacme a really good offensive lineman..

July 15, 2008  08:50 AM ET

haha very true lets go pens. ya we just cut davenport because our backfield is too crowded. we have enough with willie, mendenhall, moore, and davis at fullback. don't see this move happening

July 15, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Jones would be stupid to go to Pittsburgh (where the backfield is already crowded) over Chicago (where the starting job would be his to lose).

July 15, 2008  08:59 AM ET

Jones to the bears and he will be a bust there too...

July 15, 2008  09:01 AM ET

This guy is okay as a third back. Other than that...

July 15, 2008  09:15 AM ET

I still don't get the interest in Pittsburgh? Even after letting Davenport go, they have Parker, Mendenhall and Moore. The Steelers need depth at O-line, D-line and in the secondary.. not the backfield.

He will go to Tha Bears

Pittsburgh?? is he crazy? what's he going to do there....own part of the team.

July 15, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Why the Steelers? They have Willie Parker and just drafted Mendenhall. It doesn't make sense for him to be involved with Pittsburgh.

Chicago? Why not.

July 15, 2008  09:46 AM ET

super.

July 15, 2008  09:48 AM ET

Bears need Jones much more than the Steelers. But that doesn't mean that they will sign him. Bears management does some bizarre stuff.

July 15, 2008  10:01 AM ET

I think his agent has wishful thinking regarding the Steelers. I mean, after playing for the Lions for all that time, who wouldn't want to play for a winner like the Steelers. Maybe his agent is just trying to get interest in his client up.

July 15, 2008  10:05 AM ET

He would end up being a better overall RB in Pittsburgh just due to the QB situation and the offense...Let's see, Roethlisberger vs. Grossman...Hmmmmm

July 15, 2008  10:32 AM ET

Jones to Da Bears makes more sense here but I think this guy is a bust and no upgrade from Forte, AP II, and Wolfe. ALtough he was a BEAST at VA tech, I was there

July 15, 2008  12:16 PM ET

Wonder if he could play QB in Chicago?

Because they were boneheaded enough to think Cedirc Benson was the answer and that they didn't need Thomas Jones anymore.
