Who's next Islanders coach?

No successor is in place, but Islanders GM Garth Snow said he plans to begin a search for a replacement "as soon as possible." Three logical candidates who figure to be on the list include Paul Maurice, John Tortorella and Bob Hartley. Those three were fired last season by Toronto, Tampa Bay and Atlanta, respectively. There is a strong connection between Snow and Hartley, who once coached the Isles' GM. Former Islanders stars Bryan Trottier, who is now executive director of player development, and Butch Goring, who is a part-time television commentator, are not expected to join the list of candidates, and neither is Jack Capuano, who coaches the team's AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.

Paul Maurice is an incompetent buffoon. He's a nice guy with incredible man handling and motivational skills, but his tactical knowledge and judging player potential and ability is pathetic.

Torts is way to eccentric for this job, Snow/Wang/Dipietro + Tortorella has disaster written all over it.

Bob Hartley? I have no respect for this guy and have hated him ever since he ruined Avs chances of a Stanley Cup way back with his idiotic call for stick measurements. Seems he's a good fit with all the other idiots in this organization.

This is like asking who is going to coach the Bad News Bears!

Wanted: A coach to work for a crappy management team who doesn't mind seeing his reputation go down the toilet. Any Moron interested please submit your resume to...No chance of winning, C/O the gordon's fisherman guy.

It will be interesting who steps up and after last season.. they better win.

Who cares?! NYI will suck either way!

July 15, 2008  10:37 AM ET

Can there be anybody dumb enough to take the Islanders job? Sure! Paul Maurice took the Leafs coaching job, didn't he? And, nobody else in the NHL wants Bob Hartley! So, either one of those two could end up there!

No matter. Whoever goes to work for Small Wang is going to get sc*rewed! And the fans will be the big losers again!

Job Perks:
Hammer to hit yourself in the head over and over for taking the job.
Ability to move on in 1-2 years after being given an insane contract.
Ability to make no changes in your lines at all for fear of "differences"
etc
etc
etc...

Should be whose the next Islanders "Philospher" a prerequisite to the job being you agree with Snow.

July 15, 2008  09:11 PM ET

Who cares who their next coach is. They got rid of the best possible one. They've already thrown in the towel as far as I'm concerned. The only redeeming move they could make is to get rid of Snow now.

Henry Winkler deserves another coaching position. Sure he's kind of a jerk sometimes, but he's a Cup winner & all-time winning U.S. coach.

Who would possibly want to coach a team that will never have any help from their farm system, ever? Who has done a worse job in the history of drafting than the Islanders?? I still can't believe that a team made up of misfits would pass up on a Phaneuf-like dman like Schenn......
