Why Rangers won't trade Bradley

An AL official said the rise in prominence of Texas president Nolan Ryan has affected the switch-hitting Milton Bradley's availability. According to this official, Rangers GM Jon Daniels still is under the belief Texas should be in rebuilding mode and should translate a low-cost-gamble-turned-good such as Bradley into more long-term pieces. But the Rangers are four games over .500, six out of the wild card and have several injured pitchers ready to return, and because of all of that Ryan does not want to concede the 2008 season.

Because no one wants to put up with his mental issues.

The Rangers should trade him if a good deal comes along because they don't have the pitching to contend. With Bradley's past problems though he may not fetch enough for the Rangers to move him.

Strangely, Bradley has been great as a Ranger. I didn't think that he'd last, but has surprised me.

As a fan of a team that Bradley once played for, it's a long season, and if there is even an exhibition game to be played there is a risk he will go apesheut.

I think the Rangers should hold onto Bradley.....

July 16, 2008  10:53 AM ET

As a Padres fan I would take this guy back in a heartbeat, as would most if not all of the Padres players from what I have read. Why would Texas even think about trading him now????

I no longer agree that the Rangers need to trade hitting stars to try to augment pitching. It has not panned out for them at ALL in years past, and in the end all they did was lose great hitters and prevent themselves from gaining any traction. Keep Bradley, Hamilton, Kinsler, etc and try to develop the pitching the same way they have very skillfully developed the position players, like kinsler, davis, young, etc. At some point, you have to quit re-shuffling the deck and evolve your team, not rebuild it every year.

I was against the rangers getting bradley at first didn't think he'd produce and we had enough outfielders as is, but he has done exceptionally well and glad he turned out to be a good fit. I don't think they should trade him, this team is capable of winning now.

July 16, 2008  01:57 PM ET

I thought it was because he has a high-larious name.

MAYBE THEY SHOULD TRADE HIM TO THE REDS FOR VOLQUEZ. :)

I'm glad Ryan knows to hang onto Bradley. People can think he is nuts, but these jerks wish they had a guy with Bradley's stats. I hope the Rangers sign him to a long-term deal. The man has a fire to play the game and doesn't see it as a paycheck like Teixeria did and he has been a hell of a teammate to the Rangers. Ask them and not one would likely want Bradley gone.

Nolan Ryan was always a competetor !!! Good for him !!!

July 16, 2008  06:45 PM ET

because nobody wants him?????
