Angels take Rivera off market

Anaheim had signaled an on-again, off-again desire to move Juan Rivera. But now that Rivera has gotten hot by hitting .355 with three homers in his past 10 games to raise his season average from .164 to .233, the Angels are telling teams Rivera is not available. Too bad for the Mets, who were focusing on a player GM Omar Minaya has acquired in the past as Montreal's GM.

Too bad Omar didn't want GMJ instead. lol

Is that the same guy who stole all the stuff when he was with the Yanks?

July 16, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Angels need a bat. Trade this guy and a few others for Teixiera, Holliday or Bay.

July 16, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Good - I'm glad he's off the market.

I swear, Minaya is like an out-of-control fat kid... if there's food lying around, he'll eat it just because it's there, regardless of whether he's hungry or not. Ya gotta take the food off the table!

come on angels, du-du or get off the pot...

July 16, 2008  04:02 PM ET

It was Ruben Rivera who stole (I believe it was Jeter's stuff) when he was with the Yankees.

July 16, 2008  04:10 PM ET

I don't think it would be smart to trade Rivera because they wouldn't get their full value since he hasn't played much thisl season. I say resign him for next year cheap, save some money for other free agent signings and have him DH and play right field next year to relieve Vladdy. If not for that injury last year and GMJ's awful contract, he would have more playing time and good numbers this year.

July 16, 2008  06:15 PM ET

Isn't it best to trade a player while he's hot? Just sayin' ya might get more for 'em.

July 16, 2008  06:52 PM ET

He's not really 'off the market'.
This is a standard negotiation tactic to try and raise his trade value.

July 16, 2008  08:50 PM ET

Give GMJ and K-Rod in a deal for a BAT. We need help for Vlade and Shields can step in as the closer...besides, K-Rod won't last. look what happened Gagne.

July 16, 2008  09:47 PM ET

And he's doing all of this without the help of Derek Jeter's bat and batting gloves

July 16, 2008  10:13 PM ET

What are they doing, his market value should be at its highest now that he is hot,and he has shown promise before and flamed out,so do the smart thing and get what you can.

Also no he did not steal from Jeter, that was some other prospect who was called up for like a week.

While I like what Rivera is doing, I would trade Rivera, G. Mathews (We would have to pick up some of his contract) and say Nick Adenhart for Matt Holliday.
