Florida asked the Tigers about ex-Marlin Pudge Rodriguez, an impending free agent, but Detroit said he's not available. That could change if the Tigers fall out of contention.

Smart request by the Marlins. Pudge would be a great field and clubhouse presence on that very young team. I thought Detroit was through with him after this year? Why not cash in? I don't expect both the White Sox and Twins to to fade. The wild card is coming out of the East.

Good trade for the Marlins. Get a prospect for him.

July 16, 2008  09:42 AM ET

Tigers are through this year..;)) so speculating is void..

July 16, 2008  09:58 AM ET

I thought the Tigers wanted to move Pudge, but only after Inge came back from the DL

July 16, 2008  10:06 AM ET

hes overrated

July 16, 2008  10:27 AM ET

Why'd they get rid of him in the first place...he was the best catcher in the game when he was with them.

July 16, 2008  10:47 AM ET

Make the Fish take Sheffield too and you've got yourself a deal!

July 16, 2008  11:45 AM ET

They got rid of everyone that made any money after their last WS title

Return the favor for making the Tiger take Willis?

July 16, 2008  03:44 PM ET

I thought the Tigers would be pretty weary in any more trades with the Marlins after we pulled a fast one on them when we gave them Willis. I'd welcome Ivan in South Florida anyday

July 16, 2008  04:51 PM ET

maybe they should have thought about that when they had him in the first place. kind of tired of hearing about players going back to teams they where once with.

July 16, 2008  05:27 PM ET

being a tigers fan and a pudge fan id like to see the tigers have a 1 week window to get a 2 year extension done for around 8 mill a year and if that doesnt happen then trade him to florida for some prospects....

July 16, 2008  05:41 PM ET

The Tigers expressed reluctance to trade a "Pudge" but said there is an "Inge" available !!!

July 16, 2008  09:08 PM ET

This is very suprising, since after he saved the marlins and inspired the team to the WS, and lead the team on the field, then was turned down for $ 10 mil a year for 4 years, the guy was worth his weight in gold, now he is much lighter in weight, quicker behind the plate and the marlins want him back. The guy was a very important piece to their success when he was with them, but no reward.

July 17, 2008  12:36 AM ET

Maybe the Tigers can get Maybin back for him

July 17, 2008  10:30 PM ET

hahaha doubtful...Sounds good, but wishful thinking.

July 18, 2008  01:53 AM ET

Don't count the Tigers out yet. They are slowly creeping up on the White Sox and Twins. They aren't out of it just yet. Only 6.5 games out with over 65 games left is still a margin they can make up.

July 18, 2008  10:51 PM ET

I agree. Even though they blew tonight, I think the Tigers have a shot in the central, the sox and twins will cool off. I'd also really like to see Pudge retire a Tiger, but they can get rid of Sheff, Renteria, and Fernando Rodney if they want.

Not a bad idea here, either^
