Dallas wants Army-Navy game
Representatives from both the Cotton Bowl and the Cowboys expressed preliminary interest Tuesday in bidding to host the Army-Navy football game. The Cowboys might also be interested in hosting at their new stadium in Arlington. Naval Academy athletic director Chet Gladchuk told the academy's Board of Visitors on July 8 that a bidding process among cities for future Army-Navy games would begin within weeks, according to a story at NavyTimes.com. The published report also stated that the academy is open to corporate sponsorship of the game.

If Army could win one then this would be a great idea.

They should keep this game on the east coast

Anyone remember the outcry when it was disclosed how much the Army-Navy game in the Rose Bowl cost, with all the logistics involved?
Sorry, but it needs to stay on the East Coast, somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic up to Boston maybe. There are enough modern stadiums there or in the pipeline to play this game in this region on a rotating basis.

Good place to have it. Another good place: North Carolina.

These aren't two teams that use their massive gate receipts to get travel arrangements. These are straight up tax payer funded trips. You are looking at around 200+ people plus equipment to move

They can both bus to Carolina. Many, many service people in the state (VA and SC) friendliest to service people. I wouldn't complain.

PS Don't they get t.v. revenue? Wouldn't that defray the costs?

That game belongs on the East Coast. Baltimore, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Giants Stadium, or Foxborough are all good hosts.

GW, I was assigned to Shaw AFB, SC and it WAS NOT too friendly to servicemen and women there. And that was within the last 5 years! VA is a different story than SC.

Scott, Sumter is the Armpit of SC. Don't judge the state too harshly by them. The rest of the state is actually very very friendly to service people.

Yeah, I was talking about NC being friendliest and that there were a lot of service people around it in VA and SC. More service people in the stands would make it more fun. (Let the midshipmen and plebes make their own ways.) Plus, I think that that Charlotte would be a much nicer place in December than Philly or NY.

Weather wise, yes you are right George. However, historically that game has been played in cold brutal northeast weather. Why change that?

Back in the 70's and 80's it was a great place to be and there was a great relationship between the city of Sumter and the Shaw AFB personnel. Obviously something I'm not aware of has changed for the worst over the years since my days at Morris College! I've visited there in recent years and it didn't appear to have changed much to me, actually the city itself changed very little visually.

True and there's a lot of tradition in the game, but the latest episodes (i.e., the last twenty years) have made me think that everybody is just penancing through it, that it's no fun anymore. It's just something that has to be done. And that's too bad. Take it from the Blue North to the Red South and there'll be some spirit in the stands, especially if you've got infantry on one side of the stadium and sailors and marines on the other. Some pretty interesting tailgating too.

At one time, the game traveled across the nation. Rose Bowl, Soldier Field. When it rotated during my 4 years, it went to Giants Stadium. Bleh. It's hard to get motivated for a trip to the Meadowlands. Let the students get a break and go somewhere aside from the commonly trodden paths. It would also let the rest of the nation see what the rivalry is all about.
