Kings to hire Murray as coach

So, another Murray is on the way to Southern California and the NHL. Not Andy Murray, who was the Kings' coach for seven seasons, including the 2004-05 lockout year. Or Bryan Murray, who was the longtime general manager of the Ducks and coached them for a season. It is Terry Murray, Bryan's brother, who is expected to become the Kings' next coach, barring any last-minute veto from team ownership. Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi and Murray met Tuesday night with Tim Leiweke, chief executive of AEG, the team's parent company, and the Kings' representative on the NHL Board of Governors.

What? He's not going to the Islanders to work for Snow Job and Small Wang?

Who is this guy?

July 16, 2008  01:13 PM ET

He's the brother of the Senator's GM. He's been around for a long time. He coached the Caps (took them deep into the playoffs), the Flyers (took them to the Cup finals) and the Panthers (didn't take them anywhere. Nobody can!). He's got lots of experience! I think he'll be great with the youth movement in L.A.

it wont be hard to do better then the kings did last year.

Hextall and Lombardi new him from their days with the Flyers so they hired someone who they remembered did a good job for them ten years ago.

Good move by the Kings in my opinion. He is a proven coach that has taken his team to the playoffs far more times than not and even to the finals. He has been around the cycle being an NHL scout, assistant coach, head coach, and general manager. Was a defenseman in his NHL playing days and seems to have a connection with youth which would be very good for all the young blue chip talent the Kings have on defense. So far so good.

WOW.......Another inept move by an inept franchise. I guess Pat Burns' brother wasn't available?

July 16, 2008  09:40 PM ET

no, but Brian Burke's brother turned it down...and Kevin Lowe's brother called him a fat ****

BETTMAN S***S

I'm surprised by all of the coaching moves this season, aside from the Avs. Joel Quenneville's not gonna have a job. Maybe I'm not the only one who thinks that he isn't that good of a coach.
